Northern Liberties is an area of Philadelphia that was cut off from the rest of the city by the construction of I-95 in 1967. I-95 separated Northern Liberties from the rest of Philadelphia, creating an isolated area known as the Forgotten Triangle. The Spring Garden Station was created in 1977 to integrate transportation with I-95. Northern Liberties has experienced both urban revitalization through new development projects but also still has areas of blight and abandoned properties as it continues to develop.
