Who would be the audience for your media
product?
Annamaria Noto
Evaluation Question 4:
How I deconstructed the question:
o The audience = the target audience
o Therefore  who the media product is aimed at.
Our general target audience is:
1. Those who enjoy watching the horror genre
2. Specifically those who enjoy supernatural horror.
Age
• The target audience for my opening title sequence is those aged
15 -35.
• This is because our opening title sequence is a supernatural
horror, therefore it would not be suitable for viewers younger
than 15.
• Viewers under the age of 15 would be easily scared as they may
be sensitive to the unexpected (e.g. Jump scares and dramatic
changes in music).
• Also they may be affected by scary reoccurring themes or the
fast pace of camera shots.
…
• Furthermore, in the opening title sequence the actors are
over 15, therefore as the viewers are 15+ they would find it
easier to relate to the characters.
• Also, an audience over the age of 35 may not find the opening
title sequence appealing or intriguing. For example, they may
think that the jump scares are too predictable.
Gender
• The target audience for our opening title sequence
was both males and females.
• Despite the fact that there are only female actors in
our opening sequence, the media product was not
aimed particularly at one gender.
Sexuality
• My opening title sequence was not aimed at a
specific sexuality.
• It is aimed at all sexualities.
Race
• My opening title sequence is not aimed at a specific race
or ethnic group.
• As the protagonist is Irish and the other character is
Spanish, this may make the opening title sequence more
appealing to people of these ethnic groups (Irish and
Spanish).
The opening title sequence also:
• Portrays the representation of a minority
• Reinforces the fact that the protagonist is a female
• Challenges the fact that the protagonist is not a male.
Social Class
• My opening title sequence is not aimed at a specific
social class.
• It is aimed at all social classes.
Location
• We filmed our opening title sequence in London.
• However, London does not directly link to the story line.
• Where we filmed our opening title sequence was more
important.
• The fact that it was filmed in a graveyard is most significant as
this is relatable to people globally. This is because graveyards
look similar everywhere.
• Through this our opening title sequence would appeal to, and
be relatable to a mass audience.
• As our distributors, ‘Paramount Pictures’ are know globally, this
would help with attracting a global audience.
• The location was a key aspect of the opening title sequence
because it is typical of a supernatural horror.
BBFC Rating
• Our BBFC rating for our opening title sequence is 15+.
WHY is our BBFC rating 15+?
• The themes (e.g. possession) throughout the opening title
sequence make it scary, therefore it is not suitable for those
under 15.
• Viewers under the age of 15 would be sensitive to jump
scares and dramatic changes in music and camera shots.
Secondary Audience
(Anyone who wants to watch the media product,
but it was not aimed at them specifically).
Our secondary audience could be anyone who is
35+ or even 12+. We did not consider these
audiences during the planning and production
process.
