2. GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Sustainability
Element 8 Design is committed to our clients and the communities they serve by
designing responsibly. With a LEED accredited professional on staff, we are prepared
to aid our client's decisions by identifying the most sustainably viable and appropriate
options for surface materials, lighting, furniture, energy efficiency, indoor air quality
and more.
Evidence-Based Design
Credible, peer-reviewed research informs our design decisions. This ensures solutions
that promote quality, safety, productivity, health, accessibility, and an enhanced
bottom line. The designers at Element 8 Design work hard to stay informed of current
research and implement findings to create highly functional spaces.
Collaboration
Successful realization of any built vision relies on effective interdisciplinary
collaboration. The board of trustees, patients, vendors, caregivers, family members,
community partners & organizations, donors, and designers are a few of the key
stakeholders that form the backbone of many healthcare building projects.
Flexibility
The rapid cycle of medical and technological innovation has long dictated the need for
flexible spaces. Master planning, loose-fit design, and attention to adaptable and
convertible environments allows for long-term occupation of spaces able to
dynamically accommodate functional and adjustable use.
3. Efficiency
Understanding work and patient flow is key to designing efficient healthcare
environments and patient-centered care. We strive to understand the processes that
dictate movement so that we can plan for effective wayfinding, durable surface
materials, and unobtrusive furniture, both free-standing and architecturally integrated.
We aim to provide space that optimizes the entire system of care.
Wellness
Our goal at Element 8 design is to create environments that aid in the healing process
and promote wellness for all users. We understand the calming effects of the natural
environment, are proficient in our understanding of color theory & implementation and
carefully choose materials that will not hinder indoor air quality.
Safety & Accessibility
Patient and staff safety initiatives are an important part of the design process. As many
organizations move toward decreased staff & patient injuries and minimizing nosocomial
infections, we are prepared to offer solutions in the built environment that support these
goals. As part of the safety culture, the implementation of universal design, in
conjunction with ADA guidelines, ensures user-friendly environments that minimize risk
to staff members, caregivers, visitors, and patients.
