6. Say Think Explain Read the sentence and draw a simple picture. Add speech bubbles, thought clouds and explanation stars to show what might be really happening.
Children read their copy of the story at their tables. Ask them to ring any words they word like someone in the group to explain. Get further explanation- ensure howling, accidentally, spoilt and tower are included.
Children to write question on paper or post-it note. Decide on question at table. Other children in class to try and answer. Encourage reading between the lines questions.
Encourage role play for this part- demonstrate with Mr Trzinski. Children have a go with a partner, then decide what the hidden sentence could be and write on their sheets.
Show my example with the sentence starting ‘Never mind…’ Then ask children to work with their detective partner to create a picture.
Pupils take it in turns to build story in sequence, using both their pictures and their recount. Then group shares ideas to predict what might happen next.
