1. Final IDJ -05
BOOK COVER DESIGN: A Book About The Life Your Daily Object
Submission: Week 18
“Don’t judge a book by its cover. “
Well for this final IDJ, let us judge your object from the cover of the book.
Pretend that your object is famous. Everyone wants to read about the story of your daily object. That
story could be an inspiration to others.
So what is so inspiring about the life of your daily object? You must illustrate it through the book cover.
Use metaphors, analogy, and personification etc to help you with the idea for the book cover. You
should first think of the “story” that you want to create from your daily object.
You are required to create and design a book cover to be inserted as a cover for your IDJ folder.
(see http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/student-interactives/book-cover-creator-30058.html)
Your task:
1. Research on the design, layout, content of the book cover, how to make it etc.
2. Imagine the content of the story of the object and how it could be inspiring to others. Pick some
key words that best explain the life/story of your object and some inspirational words of wisdom
that you want to share with others. You could imagine that you are that object.
3. Find out what you need to have on a book cover. Example: title of your book, inspiring phrases,
synopsis of the author at the back flap, synopsis of the story at the back cover etc.
4. Once you have all the information, then you can start designing your book cover. Think of the
appropriate material and content to produce the cover. You may cut and paste and hand make
this book cover or you can make it digitally. The Book Cover must be the cover of the final IDJ
compilation.
5. Important information and item on the book cover:
a. A logo, image, picture, artwork to represent your object or personality or as a conclusion of
its life story.
b. A title for the book.
c. Supporting phrase such as inspiring words or sentences.
d. The Author and other information that should be on the book cover. (perhaps the publisher
which u can create your own)
2. e. A synopsis of the story. (perhaps at the back cover)
f. Brief information about the author. (perhaps at the front flap)
g. Other information required on a book cover. (price?, publisher, address etc)
h. Make it as real as possible.
