The 3A students at Lazzari school proposed ideas to improve the school building and garden. Their proposals included using innovative colored concrete and silkscreen paintings, installing a gazebo with solar panels, and recycling materials. The students suggested locations for these changes like the front garden and unused rooms. They created designs and got cost estimates. The students will help with murals, gardens, and furniture to renew the school with simple solutions.

Some ideas to improve
our school building and
garden by 3^A
students of school year
2015 - 2016
2. 1
Lazzari school was built in the 70s and needs a renewal and
improvement intervention because of the lack of investments during
the last decades.
What do the students suggest?
The project aims to recover
and recycle materials
destined for disposal,
besides making the school
building more beautiful by
using an innovative type of
concrete that changes its
colour with the changing of
temperature or by placing
silk-screen paintings that
come out the floor is wet;
also a gazebo could be
installed in the front garden,
with a photovoltaic system,
which would produce clean
energy with no costs to charge
the electronic devices or to
connect them to the internet.
These proposals do not imply
any heavy structural or
architectural changes and are
practically feasible thanks to
simple but smart expedients.
3. 2
Where do the students suggest that changes are made?
The large square garden in front
of the school could be used as a
space for the gazebo while
keeping its valuable trees; also,
the school has many available
places that could
accommodate wheelchair
ramps and many currently
neglected rooms that could be
used as libraries or digital labs.
How have the students been involved? How will they
be involved in the future?
Various classes came up with
several ideas, which could
meet their needs and are
consistent with the project
idea; furthermore, the students
took the measurements of the
places intended for the decorations
and made photomontages, which
aimed to provide an example of
what could be done. Other
students got in touch with some
associations which could provide

the necessary services and goods,
and asked for estimations of expenses
for the building renovations. The
students will also take part in the
realization of murals and paintings and
will help make flower boxes with
colourful tyres and outdoor stools with
recycled pallets.
How does the school intend to try and reduce number of
drop - outs?
There has been a lot of research to understand the problem and try and
reduce it.
A digital library allowing to
use different materials, like
pictures, texts, videos or
social networks that are
accessible to all students
could be helpful. Another
solution could be working
with associations that
promote extra-school
activities, within the school
premises, to build up the
students’ sense of belonging
to the school.
