– John, who works as an
Instructional Designer in ABC
Corp., has a typical task in hand.
He have received few PowerPoint
materials from his Project
Manager.
– These materials have been
provided by the SME.
– He have been given the task to
copy-edit the PPT decks, include
some interactivity based on ID
principles, and publish the
PowerPoint materials that will be
viewed online by the audience.
– Time given by his Project Manager:
3-4 weeks when he needs to
complete this task so he doesn’t
even have time to learn any new

interactivity to a PowerPoint file.

with a engaging learning experience.

program to install it on your machine.
• Once you have successfully installed Articulate, you can access the
Articulate Presenter menu from within PowerPoint. All Articulate

25. Some tips to remember!
• Before starting to program the deck in Articulate, be sure that the
deck is copy-edited and signed off.
• Ensure that you have the audio in the appropriate format. It is
recommended to import the audio in “.WAV” format only - Articulate
automatically converts the audio into MP3 once it is published.
• If there is any animations that needs to be synchronized with the
audio / voice over, ensure that you use the Sync Animation Timings
menu option under the Articulate menu. You need to manually
synchronize the audio with the animations.

any PPT that you might have in your PC, which you might have
created to present any session.
2. Download the Articulate software and install it in your PC.

we discussed during the session to create the online

your original work. Also, try to see if there is any feature that I
may have missed in this session and do let me know as well.

So, lets get started on today’s session on using Articulate to create online presentations. First, let us briefly try to understand the usage of Articulate and its need.
Before we begin, lets take a look at why do we really need to use Articulate. As you can see the picture on the left-hand side, we have a classroom-based lecture where there is a teacher who is teaching only a group of students who are physically present in a classroom. And, then on the right-hand side, you can see the picture of group of students who are sitting with their PCs, which is a perfect example of an online lecture that allows anyone to view a presentation irrespective of their location. There are various tools also known as authoring tools that allow you to create an online version of the lecture such as Lectora and Articulate. You can even use Captivate to create an online presentation or a lecture. Lets now take a look at a typical scenario that depicts the need for using Articulate.
Here’s a typical scenario. John, who works as an Instructional Designer in ABC Corp., has a typical task in hand. He have received few PowerPoint materials from his Project Manager that have been provided by the SME. He have been given the task to copy-edit the PPT decks, include some interactivity based on ID principles, and publish the PowerPoint materials that will be viewed online by the audience. And, the time given by his Project Manager is quite less. He just have 3-4 weeks when he needs to complete this task so he doesn’t even have time to learn any new tool. What will John do in such a case?
Here’s the solution: John can use Articulate for this purpose. Let’s now take a look on how articulate will help John in his project. But, before that, let us first briefly take a look about Articulate.
Lets now look at a brief introduction about Articulate. Articulate is a suite of set of e-learning development tools that easy to use by any novice person It is used to convert PowerPoint presentations directly to create an e-learning course. Articulate Rapid eLearning Studio Professional , which is also the market leader in rapid e-learning software, is an integrated authoring suite that includes applications such as: Presenter : Create e-learning courses by adding narration and interactivity to a PowerPoint file. Quizmaker : Create highly customized Flash-based quizzes and assessments. Engage : Enable you to create dazzling interactions to provide learners with a engaging learning experience. In this session, I will take you through some of the features of Articulate Presenter only. Lets now look at some of the benefits of Articulate.

And, most importantly, it has a minimal learning curve, which is a boon for any novice who has limited timeframe to deliver an online presentation It takes just few minutes to publish simple slides Last but not the least, it has a set of pre-defined interactivities and is easy to create quick assessments
But why Articulate and not any other product such as Captivate or Lectora. The BIG benefit lies with that fact that it is integrated inside Microsoft PowerPoint and it is easy to learn.
Lets now take a look at how will you install Articulate in to your PCs before you start using the tool.
These are some of the system requirements required to install Articulate. Lets take a few moments to go through them.
Lets take a few moments to understand few basic steps to install and start using Articulate.
Lets now get started with some of the important useful features of using Articulate.
Player Template Builder is a simple tool to create and edit templates that customize the Articulate Player. Templates are pre-configured player options, which provide a quick and convenient way to apply a set of customizations to the Articulate Player. Templates help standardization of the Articulate Player.
This feature allows you to import the audio into your presentation. Articulate allows you to import only WAV or MP3 files into the presentation so if you have received the audio in any other format then you may need to first convert that into WAV or a MP3 using a audio tool. When you choose “Import Audio” Articulate menu in your presentation, you get an Import audio dialog box that allows you to import the supported formats in your presentation. However, please note that you need to import the audio for each slide which might be cumbersome task if you over a 100 slides as you need to insert the audio for each slide one by one.
Articulate also provides Timeline Audio Editor that provides you precise control over your recorded or imported narration. It allows you to edit the audio track for each slide, as well as drag-and-drop markers for synchronizing your narration with your animation. You can also perform various operations such as import, cut, paste, and delete narration using this editor.
Articulate provides you with the Slide Properties Manager where you can manage various elements of a presentation. Some of these include as follows: Slide Title Display in Navigation as Level, which allows you to group the slides. In technical writing terms, we can relate this to TOC. Move to Next Slide, which allows you to enable the learner / viewer to control the pace of presentation. You can set the pace of presentation to Automatic where the presentation slides run one by one or set to user where the learner have the option to move to each slide. This gives the learn enough time to spend on each slide.
Articulate allows you to insert assessment using: Insert Quizmaker Quiz menu item: This requires Articulate Quizmaker to be installed in the machine. Insert Learning Game menu item. We will discuss about the “Insert Learning Game menu item” in this session.
In Articulate, Insert Learning Game involves a five-step process. Step 1 : When you choose “Insert Learning Game” option from “Quizzes and Learning Games” option, you get what you call a Learning Game dialog box where you have an option to add a new learning game slide or edit the existing learning game slide. If this is this time you are creating the learning game, then the second option will be disabled. Click on the Add a new learning game slide option and click the OK button. Step 2 : This is the first step of the Learning Games wizard where you can choose the Learning Game type. You can choose from three types of learning games such as Choices, Word Quiz, which is similar to Hangman game, and Sequence. You also need to enter the title of the Assessment in the Learning Game title textbox and choose the different options available such as Require completion, Play audio effects, Passing score, and time limit. Step 3 : This step is optional. In this step, you can display a customized message that will appear in the beginning of the learning game or assessment. As an example, you can display the instructions for the learning game. Step 4 : In this step, you start creating the questions one by one. I had chosen ”Choices” as a Learning game type but depending on the type of learning game you choose, you will get the relevant screen. Step 5 : This is the final step where you create the questions such as MCQ and True False. Please note that in MCQ you have a limitation where you can only include questions that consists of five or less than five choices only.
Finally, its time to publish the presentation and see how it looks. You do this by choosing “Publish” from the Articulate menu. You can either choose to publish over the Web or choose to publish the presentation in a Word document.
Now, lets us see how will you view your presentation. To view your previously published presentation: Select Articulate from the PowerPoint menu bar. Select View Presentation from the Articulate Menu. You can also view your presentation at any time by navigating to the output folder and double-clicking player.html .
