Module 1: Introduction to Open Access
• UNIT 1: Scholarly Communication Process
• UNIT 2: Open Access: History and Developments
• UNIT 3: Rights and Licenses
• UNIT 4: Advocacy for Open Access
• UNIT 5: Open Access Research Impacts
Learning Objectives
– To understand scholarly communication process and OA principles ,
and differentiate between the various forms of OA;
– To learn issues related to rights management, incl. copyright, copy-
left, authors’ rights and related intellectual property rights;
– To understand the impact of OA within a scholarly communication
environment.
Module 2: Open Access Infrastructure
• UNIT 1: Open Access Repositories
• UNIT 2: Open Journals
• UNIT 3: More About Open Approaches
Learning Objectives
– To understand OA resources of all types, their definition, nature,
features, planning, executing, choosing appropriate technical
standards and following set procedures and later maintenance
for all parties involved i.e. host, sponsors, users and prospective
content creators.
– Emphasis is on e-journals and e-repositories, emerging trends in
the open access movement.
Module 3: Resource Optimization
• UNIT 1: Open Access Mandates and Policies
• UNIT 2: Content Management in Open Access Context
• UNIT 3: Harvesting and Integration
Learning Objectives
– Focuses on resource optimization in general that aims to discuss
how the OA environment can be promoted and how the
collection development may be facilitated by integrating OA
resources with institutional and library resources.
– Expected to be able to foster an enabling environment for OA,
and facilitate collection development by integrating library
services.
Module 4 Interoperability and Retrieval
• UNIT 1: Resource Description for OA Resources
• UNIT 2: Interoperability Issues for Open Access
• UNIT 3: Retrieval of Information for OA Resources
Learning Objectives
– Focuses on interoperability issues, resource description and
information retrieval in the context of OA resources.
– Objective is to help you understand interoperability issues,
perpetual access, importance of standards, and the integration of
different products in building institutional repositories and also
various retrieval features that is available which can be
considered for development of IR system for OA resources.

and several other OA Channels
• Embedding UNESCO OA Curriculum in LIS Courses – MLIS,
M.Phil. and Pre-PhD
• Utilized for Lifelong Learning, Continuous Professional
development of LIS professionals
• Being planned to develop open certifications for LIS
professionals
• Engage in hands on experience through self-archiving of
published contents
• Disseminating with an open license, e.g. Creative Commons
license
• Promoting multiple points access for OA resources

Module 1: Introduction to Open Access • UNIT 1: Scholarly Communication Process • UNIT 2: Open Access: History and Developments • UNIT 3: Rights and Licenses • UNIT 4: Advocacy for Open Access • UNIT 5: Open Access Research Impacts Learning Objectives – To understand scholarly communication process and OA principles , and differentiate between the various forms of OA; – To learn issues related to rights management, incl. copyright, copy- left, authors’ rights and related intellectual property rights; – To understand the impact of OA within a scholarly communication environment.

Module 2: Open Access Infrastructure • UNIT 1: Open Access Repositories • UNIT 2: Open Journals • UNIT 3: More About Open Approaches Learning Objectives – To understand OA resources of all types, their definition, nature, features, planning, executing, choosing appropriate technical standards and following set procedures and later maintenance for all parties involved i.e. host, sponsors, users and prospective content creators. – Emphasis is on e-journals and e-repositories, emerging trends in the open access movement.

Module 3: Resource Optimization • UNIT 1: Open Access Mandates and Policies • UNIT 2: Content Management in Open Access Context • UNIT 3: Harvesting and Integration Learning Objectives – Focuses on resource optimization in general that aims to discuss how the OA environment can be promoted and how the collection development may be facilitated by integrating OA resources with institutional and library resources. – Expected to be able to foster an enabling environment for OA, and facilitate collection development by integrating library services.

Module 4 Interoperability and Retrieval • UNIT 1: Resource Description for OA Resources • UNIT 2: Interoperability Issues for Open Access • UNIT 3: Retrieval of Information for OA Resources Learning Objectives – Focuses on interoperability issues, resource description and information retrieval in the context of OA resources. – Objective is to help you understand interoperability issues, perpetual access, importance of standards, and the integration of different products in building institutional repositories and also various retrieval features that is available which can be considered for development of IR system for OA resources.

Conclusion • Accessible from http://unesdoc.unesco.org , E-LIS repository and several other OA Channels • Embedding UNESCO OA Curriculum in LIS Courses – MLIS, M.Phil. and Pre-PhD • Utilized for Lifelong Learning, Continuous Professional development of LIS professionals • Being planned to develop open certifications for LIS professionals • Engage in hands on experience through self-archiving of published contents • Disseminating with an open license, e.g. Creative Commons license • Promoting multiple points access for OA resources
