The 70+ strong crowd had forward thinking Management Committee Members, Leading Experts in Water Supply, Chief Engineer of BWSSB (Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board) and MLA of Karantaka Assembly, in-charge of Bangalore. 5.  The first piped water supply system in Bangalore was started
in 1896 from Hesaraghatta lake built across River Arkavathi.
 Water supply was managed by City Corporation
 Water supply was augmented in the years 1933, 1957 and in 1964 in
stages up to 135 MLD from Chamaraja Sagara Reservoir built across
River Arkavathi at T.G.Halli on down stream of Hesaraghatta situated
about 26KM to the West of Bangalore.
 Supply from Hessargatta and T.G.Halli reservoirs are completely
stopped
 Now, Cauvery is the only major source of water supply to the city
 1280 MLD of water is now supplied to Bangalore. Water from bore
wells also supplement part of the requirement.

18. Water supply to future Apartments
 Conditional NOC are being issued towards future
development of apartments.
 Apartments have to make their own arrangements for water
and wastewater disposals.
 Entire BBMP limits are expected to be provided with
Cauvery water supply only by 2022.
 No more fresh water augmentation from Cauvery source
beyond 2022.
 It is mandatory for all Housing blocks having more than 5o
apartments to provide for on site waste water treatment
and its reuse for secondary purposes.
 Providing RWH facilities both for reuse and recharge are
mandatory.

 On site waste water treatment shall be effective and fit for
reuse.
 Several kinds of treatment facilities are available in the
market and should be chosen with proper care depending
on end use.
 Considering the likely future water scenario treatment
options should get top priority for better beneficial uses.
 Effective Operation and maintenance of waste water
treatment plants in various apartment complexes is a major
area of concern particularly after handing over to the
owners association.
 Unless more of reuse is put into practice situation would be
grim.

20. Water supply to future Apartments
 To prevent leakages and loss of water through
underground storage tanks in apartments action may
be taken to provide CFTRI certified food grade GRP
coatings applied on floor and wall surfaces which
would make tanks leak proof.
 Apartment complexes less than 50 tenements may try
to adopt non power based treatments (which are very
primitive by nature) to prevent pollution of water
bodies.
