Situation in Other RIR Regions
RIR region Situation
AFRINIC • No formal process to remotely
participate for Chair election
• May accommodate per request basis
ARIN • Registered voting contacts of ARIN
• members can vote for ARIN AC election
LACNIC • Everyone votes online
• Those registered in Policy ML can vote
RIPE • Online participants can express
opinions
• In case of no consensus, secret ballots
by onsite participants
Separate process in participation in election from PDP for
proposals. Not a free-handed remote participation.

Summary of Situation in Other Regions
pNot all RIR regions formally accommodate
remote participation SIG/WG Chair/Co-Chair
elections
pWhere remote participation for election is
available, more information than APNIC
CONFER is requested
pTwo approaches observed
a. Require to register more detailed information
ü Including Organisation and contact other than email
ü Similar to physical meeting registration
b. Lightweight information required
ü However, if large difference in result between onsite and
online à Decision will be made by onsite participants

Food for Thoughts
pWhat problems are we trying to solve?
Ø Are we hearing needs on remote participation for SIG
Chair/Co-Chair Election?
pWhat is our priority?
Ø Outreach to wider community members to join
discussions at SIGs
Ø Encourage more active discussions on proposals
Ø Remote participation in SIG Chair/Co-Chair elections
pIf to consider remote participation for SIG
elections:
a. Is it sufficient to apply the current remote
participation scheme (CONFER) to election? OR
b. Is stronger authentication mechanism needed?

Possible Options
A) Continue with the current process
Ø Chairs/Co-Chairs Election for onsite participants only
Ø Consider remote participation option when there are
concrete needs
B) Start a test deployment
Ø To see the level of interests/see how it works.
Ø However, the formal decision will be based on
participation by onsite participants
C) Formally accommodate online participants for
Chair/Co-Chair elections
