  1. Students need to understand that “argumentation” does not mean a combative situation. It simply means supporting your views. However, taking a strong argumentative stance may seem combative!
  2. Explain to students that although they may think about something in a particular way, others may not agree. Students need to be prepared for readers questioning their stance.
  3. A good way to proofread an argument is to have someone opposed to your viewpoint read it and make comments. This should encourage students to take a strong stance and provide strong support.
