The document discusses the nature of software and data. It argues that software is immaterial and can be easily copied, unlike physical property. However, data is often treated as property subject to restriction. The presenter argues that restricting the sharing of software and data goes against the nature of software and prevents it from reaching its full potential. OSGeo aims to promote sharing of open source geospatial software and data to create public benefit on a global scale.
