3. INTRODUCTION
• These days our world is facing fuel crisis and
air pollution.
• The primary fuel we are using is gasoline
which is expensive and non-renewable.
• So an alternate for gasoline has to be adopted.
• Compressed air serves this purpose.
4. AIR CAR
The air car is also called as a low pollution or zero
pollution cars.
Since the car runs on compressed air it is
environmentally friendly.
Air cars runs on compressed air instead of gasoline.
Air is all around us. Air is nonpolluting.
5. It was invented by Guy Niger, a
French engineer; in 1991 started
Meteor Development
International (MDI) Luxembourg.
This will be the World’s First Air
Car with Zero Emissions.
The Air Car, called the
“MiniCAT”.
The MiniCAT which is a simple,
light urban car, with a tubular
chassis that is glued, not welded,
and a body of fiberglass powered
by compressed air.
6. How do air engines work?
The engine is powered by compressed air, stored in a carbon-fiber tank at 30 MPa
(4500 psi). The tank is made of carbon fiber in order to reduce its weight.
The expansion of this air pushes the pistons and creates movement. The
atmospheric temperature is used to re-heat the engine and increase the road
coverage.
The air conditioning system makes use of the expelled cold air
Approximately 90m³ of compressed air is stored in fiber tanks in the vehicle.
7. PARTS OF AIR CAR
COMPRESSED AIR TANK
Compressed air tank are one of
the most important part of these
cars. These tanks hold 90m3 of air
to 300 bars. These tanks do not
explode in case of accidents since
there are no metals in them.
BRAKE POWER RECOVERY
The MDI vehicles will be equipped with a range of modern
systems. One mechanism stops the engine when the car is
stationary (at traffic lights, junctions etc). The pneumatic
system which recovers about 13% of the power used.
8. THE BODY
The car body is built
with fiber and injected
foam.
This technology has two
main advantages: cost
and weight.
Fiber is safer (it doesn
´t cut like steel), is easier
to repair (it is glued),
doesn´t rust etc.
9. THE AIR FILTER
The engine works with both air
taken from the atmosphere and
air pre-compressed in tanks.
Before compression, the air
must be filtered to get rid of any
impurities that could damage
the engine.
Carbon filters are used to
eliminate dirt, dust, humidity
and other particles.
The exhaust pipe on the cars
produces clean air, which is cold
on exit (between -15º and 0º) and
is harmless to human life.
10. THE CHASSIS:
Engine has put together
highly-resistant, yet light,
chassis, aluminium rods
glued together.
Aluminium rods enables
to build more shock
resistant chassis than
regular chassis.
The rods are glued, not
welded.
This system helps to
reduce manufacture time.
11. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:
Using a radio transmission system, each electrical
component receives signals with a micro-
controller.
Thus only one cable is needed for the whole car.
Instead of wiring each component, one cable
connects all electrical parts in the car.
The entire system becomes an anti-theft alarm as
soon as the key is removed from the car.
12. REFILING OF AIR
Three modes for fueling tank:
Air Stations.
Domestic electric plug.
Dual-energy mode .
1) The air can be filled at our
home by using Air
Compressor ,but it requires
3 to 4 hours.
2) And the air can be filled in
Air Stations and it requires
just 2 to 3 minutes.
14. DUAL ENERGY MODE
SINGLE ENERGY MODE
It uses only compressed air
as fuel
It runs completely on
compressed air
It causes less pollution
DUAL ENERGY MODE
It uses compressed air and
also fossil fuels as fuel
At over 50km/hr engine will
switch to fuel mode
It causes more pollution

17. AIR CARS IN INDIA
Tata Motors has signed an agreement with Moteur
Development International of France to develop a car that
runs on compressed air.
making it very economical to run and almost totally
pollution free.
The car Mini CAT - could cost around Rs 350,000 in India
and would have arrange of around 300 km between refuels.
The cost of a refill would be about Rs 90.
18. ADVANTAGES
Less costly and more effective.
Simple in construction. The engine can be
massively reduced in size.
Easy to maintain and repair.
Lighter vehicles cause less damage to roads.
The price of filling air tanks is significantly
cheaper than petrol, diesel or bio fuel.
Pollution free.
19. DISADVANTAGES
It has relatively less speed.
Air pumping stations are less in number.
Distance could also become a disadvantage,
depending on your travel habits.
Refueling at house takes 3-4 hours.
20. CONCLUSION
Essentially, MDI Has Developed A Modern, Clean, And
Cheap Car That Meets Most People’s Needs.
Air cars is a realization of latest technology in automobile
field.
It eliminates the use of non-renewable fuels and Thereby
preventing pollution and step to a healthier environment.
Mexico government scheduled to replace 45000 cars by air
car in highly polluted area of their country.
