4. • Badminton is a racquet sport played by either two
opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs
(doubles),who take positions on opposite halves of a
rectangular court that is divided by a net. Players score
points by striking a shuttlecock with their racquet so that
it passes over the net and lands in their opponents’ half
of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock
once before it passes over the net. A rally ends once the
shuttlecock has struck the floor.
5. • A form of sport played in ancient Greece and Egypt.
• The beginnings of Badminton can be traced to mid-18th
century British India.
• Initially, balls of wool referred as ball badminton but
ultimately the shuttlecock stuck.
• The International Badminton Federation (IBF)(now known
as Badminton World Federation) was established in
1934.
• Was first contested as an official Olympic sport at the
1992 Olympics.
6. • Racquets are lightweight(70-95
grams), not including grip or
strings. They are composed of
many different materials
(carbon fiber composite
aluminum, wood).
• String: The optimum tension
for the power depends on the
player String tension is normally
in the range of 80N(recreational
players) to 160 N
(Professionals).
7. • Grip: The choice of grip allow a
player to increase the thickness of
his racquet handle and choose a
comfortable surface to hold.
• Shuttle: A shuttlecock is a high-drag
projectile, with an open conical
shape: the cone is formed from
sixteen overlapping feathers
embedded into a rounded cork base.
The cork is covered with thin leather
or synthetic material. Synthetic
shuttles(nylon) are often used by
recreational players to reduce their
costs as feathered shuttles break
easily.

8. • Each game is played to 21 points. A match is best of three
games.
• At the start of the rally, the server and receiver stand in
diagonally opposite service courts.
• When the serving side looses a rally, the serve immediately
passes to their opponent.
• In singles, the server stands in their right service court when
their score is even, and from left service court when the score
is odd.
• In doubles, if the serving side wins a rally, the same player
continues to serve, but they changes the service courts so that
they serves to different opponent each time. If the opponents
win the rally and their score is even, the players in the right
service court serves; if odd, the player in the left service court

15. • Basketball is a team sport in which two teams of five
active players each try to score points against one
another by propelling a ball through a 10 ft. high hoop(the
goal) under organized rules. Basketball is one of the
most popular and widely viewed sports in the world.
• While competitive basketball is primarily an indoor sport,
played on a basketball court, less regulated variations
have become exceedingly popular as an outdoor sports
among both inner city and rural groups.
• Techniques involved in the sport include: shooting,
rebounding, passing, dribbling and blocking.
16. • In early December 1891, Dr. James Naismith, a
Canadian physical education student and instructor at
YMCA Training School(today, Springfield College)in
Springfield, Massachusetts, sought a vigorous indoor
game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels
of fitness during the long New England winters to keep
the student in shape.
• After rejecting other ideas as either too rough or poorly
suited to walled-in gymnasiums, he wrote the basic rules
and named each basket onto a 10-foot elevated track.
17. • The first official game was played in the YMCA
gymnasium on January 20, 1892 with nine players and
the game ended at 1-0 with the game-winning shot
made from 25 feet, on a court just half the size of a
present-day National Basketball Association(NBA) court.
“Basket ball”, the name suggested by one of Naismith’s
students, was popular from the beginning. By 1897-1898
teams of five became standard.
• By the 1950s, basketball had become a major college
sport, thus having the way for a growth of interest in
professional basketball.
18. COURT
• The court is a

ball while running).
Weight is 600-650g.
• Circumference is 75-
76 cm. bounce should
be 1.80m and less
than 1.20m.
• The size of the
basketball is also
regulated. For men, the
official ball is 29.5
inches(79.9cm) in
circumference(size 7,
or a “295 ball”) and
weighs 22
ounces(624g).
20. • The basket is a steal rim
18 inches(45.7cm) in
diameter with an attached
net affixed to a backboard
that measures 6
feet(182.9cm) by 3.5
feet(106.7cm), and one
basket is at each end of
the court. The white
outlined box on the
backboard is 18
inches(45.7cm) high and
2 feet(61.0cm) wide. At
almost all levels of
competition, the top of the
rim is exactly 10
feet(305cm) above the
court and 4 feet(305cm)
above the court and 4
