What Do You Need to Use Pedal Power?<br />A stationary or exercise bike<br />Any bike will work, as long as it is stable and can’t move<br />The Flywheel<br />A heavy rotating disk that stores momentum. Used because it resists changes in speed, allowing for a stable torque for the generator. (More information appearing later)<br />
  5. 5. What You Need: Continued<br />Belts and Pulleys<br />A series of belts and pulleys depending on your project. Used to turn mechanisms on your device. Attach to your flywheel and the generator.<br />A generator<br />To provide mechanical energy in the form of a rotating belt to a generator which will then produce electrical energy. <br />
  6. 6. What You Need: Continued <br />A diode<br />Used to keep the flow of electricity to go one way. Since motors are two way devices, the diode allows for the motor to be a generator.<br />A fuse<br />A useful safety feature, if too much current passes the fuse, it pops. When you replace it, your device will work again, and not be destroyed.<br />
