This acronym helps us to analyse the
convections of different forms of media
such as film posters and magazine
covers.
3. Mise-en-scene is an expression used to
describe the design aspects of a film or
image.
This is done through costumes,
cinematography, props and lighting.
4. Conventions are the generally accepted
ways of doing something, this has do with
content, style and form. E.g the
convections of a music video they are
the same length as the song around 4/5
minutes, lots of fast edits and the band
members or singer in the video.
We recognise different forms of media by
identifying the convections.
6. The Hero – a character that seeks something
The Villain – who opposes or actively blocks the hero’s quest
The Donor – who provides an object with magical properties
The Dispatcher – who sends the hero on his/her quest via a message
The False Hero – who disrupts the hero’s success by making false claims
The Helper – who aids the hero
The Princess – acts as the reward for the hero and the object of the villain’s
plots
Her Father – who acts to reward the hero for his effort
Propp's he identified a theory about characters and actions
as narrative functions, so he came up with this theory
that there are always stock characters within every story
line.
