Preliminary Task
    Nikesh Solanki
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2. What have you learnt about the technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
Front Cover - Similarities
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

                                                Masthead

                                              Cover Lines

                                                Dominant
                                                 Image
Front Cover - Differences
                • Different masthead and
                    cover lines
                • Colour scheme – my
                    colours are more
                    neutral to both genders
                • Fonts and text sizes –
                    the ones on the real
                    media product look
                    more sophisticated and
                    professional.
                • Barcode – mine does
not have a barcode as it
                    is a free magazine
                • Positioning of image
                • Use of a competition to
                    attract customers
                • Pose of model – the
                    real media product has
                    a model with a more
                    arrogant pose to go with
                    the theme of that
                    magazine.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

                                           • I have used 4
                                               images on my
                                               contents page
                                               whereas the real
                                               media product has
                                               only one main
                                               image and one
                                               smaller images
                                               which looks neater
                                               and more
                                               professional.
                                           • The colour scheme
                                               on the real media
                                               product is clean and
                                               simple as it is
                                               consistent, but my
                                               contents page has
                                               random colours
                                               scattered
                                               throughout the
                                               pages which doesn’t
                                               look as attractive.
                                           • The large use of
                                               blue on my contents
                                               page could be
                                               associated with a
                                               ‘male colour’

The image on the left is the original
image which I took on my digital camera.
On the right is the finished image after I
used Adobe Photoshop CS6 to edit it.
I edited this picture by cropping it so that
the main focus was the student, not the
background. I also lowered the contrast
to make the picture look sharper.

The image on the right is an image which I
had already edited on Adobe Photoshop.
The image on the right is the final image
which I used in my magazine after using
Adobe Indesign CS6 to edit it some more.
I added a frame around the image by
drawing a rectangular box which was
slightly larger than the image and I
formatted the box then placed the image on
top of it and arranged it so it was on top. I
then added a drop shadow to the image to
give make it look as though it was actually
                                 in a 3D frame.
