- In a previous life I worked as an engineer in the telecommunications industry. All of my work was done in a project managed environment. When I came to Search Engine Marketing in 1999 I began working with a wide range of people from marketing, advertising and media backgrounds who told me that search engine marketing could not be project managed. “It’s a black art”, they said, “the outcomes cannot be determined.” They were wrong. As in all other fields, the fact that your work is project managed does not mean that your goals will be achieved. You still need to have expertise, experience and technology relevant to your field of endeavour. However, the addition of a project management focus to your search marketing work will make your successes more predictable and more frequent.
