Welcome to, ‘Dell Networking N-Series Switches Overview!’
For many businesses, Dell isn’t the first manufacturer we think of when considering networking equipment in a world of Cisco and Netgear. However, in recent years, Dell has taken aim for the low cost networking market with cost effective, easy to use models.
To this end, Dell’s N-Series family delivers cost-effective and energy efficient 1GbE and 10GbE switches that boast interoperability, reliability and scalability to make network administration easier.

What are some common features of these switches, Kevin?
Sure, Amber.
The N-Series models offer layer 2 and layer 3 switching and include 24 & 48-Port options. Additionally, they boast standard features like:
full-bandwidth utilization and high availability, meaning optimal performance & minimal downtime.
For those concerned with scalability and integrating into existing networks, the N-Series offers a more flexible choice in your network with the latest open standard protocols to unite products.
They also promote greater interoperability through interfaces with Cisco's Rapid Per VLAN Spanning Tree (RPVST+)1 and devices using Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP)
The N-Series Family offers 3 Different Product Tiers, the N2000 Series, the N3000 Series, and the N4000 Series.

Would you give us a quick glimpse at each tier in the series?
Of course. Let’s start with the N2000 Series
These are 1Gb switches designed to connect users & devices to the network.
These are available in both poe+ & non-poe options. These provide layer 2 switching, as well as entry level layer 3.
N2000 switches are stackable, able to scale up to 600 ports as one logical device.
The N2000 and the next tier, the N3000 include 2 high speed 10Gb SFP+ uplinks.
N3000 Series
As the next step up, the N3000 are 1Gb switches designed to connect users, servers, & storage to the network.
The N3000 also supports poe+ in select models, along with dual hot-swap power supplies providing up to 48 poe+ ports.
Advanced layer 2 switching & layer 3 routing supports communication between networks.
The N3000 switches can scale up to 624 ports as one logical device when stacked.
The N3000, as well as the next tier, the N4000, are validated for auto-configuration with Dell iSCSI storage arrays (like the MD3200i, MD3220i, etc..)
N4000 Series
Speaking of the N4000, this is a high-performance 10Gb switch series designed for server and storage connectivity.
These can scale up to 674 ports as one logical device when stacked.
High speed uplinks include Copper or Fibre connections up to 40Gb.
& Advanced routing capabilities make it perfect for high-speed communication and aggregation in campus networks or data centers.
