2. Introduction
Although Canadian food isn’t as well known as
some other cuisines, their tie to France gives
them the perfect platform for amazing food and
culinary creations.
A lot of this food covered is available at Just-Eat
who specialise in food delivery.
3. Maple Syrup
The cultural significance to
Canada and the maple leaf pegs
the way to this delicious sweet
treat. It is made by taking out the
sap of the maple tree and
combining it with sugar, a
tradition that has been carried out
for a number of years.
There are many brands
specialising in syrup and remains a
popular export for the country.
4. Poutine
This dish recently won a poll for the most associated food to Canada
there is! The tradition of poutine started at street food markets, where
the addition of cheese curd was added to chips/fries and gravy to
create this tasty comfort food. There are many variations of the recipe
and a lot of the regional fast food and pizza delivery outlets supply this
as a core offering on their menu.
5. Butter Tarts
These small sweet tarts are
reminiscent of French
patisserie, something that is close
to the heart of many Canadian
people. These tarts have a filling
of sugar-like caramel and have
been baked to perfection.
They are extremely sweet and
moreish, and for good reason!
6. Salmon Jerky
These strips of dried and
marinated salmon are very
addictive and tasty. Terriyaki
flavouring is popular and a smokey
marinade is another option.
The fish is dried out with the
flavouring and is sold as snack
food. Although other meats are
available, salmon continues to be
the most popular.
7. Pierogi
Pierogies have an eastern
European heritage, but have
found their way into the
traditional food of Canada.
They are simply small
dumplings with potato and
filled with other ingredients
such as mice lamb,
sauerkraut or herbs.
