TELECOM INFRASTRUCTURE AND
RESTORATION EFFORTS –
CURRENT FLOODS
As of 24th September 2010

Background
The recent catastrophic rains have caused havoc, resulting in
the most damaging floods in Pakistan’s History.
Not only it is having devastating effect on livelihoods all
infrastructure has been severely impacted in the affected
areas including roads and telecommunication.

Damage Assessment
Damages Categories as reported by Operators
 Erosion of boundary walls and tower bases.
 Equipment damage due to water accumulation inside the site.
(BSS ,Trx, Power etc)
 Feeder cables damage due to settlement of cable bridge
foundation support.
 In rare cases tower foundation settlement issues have occurred.
 Fiber cable Cuts on backbone and local fibers cables.
 Microwave Backhaul disruption
 Short circuits and power system damage including Generator

Damage Assessment
 The current Damage Assessment estimates a loss of
Approximately Rs. 4147.643 Million from Landline and
Cellular Operators Only. This figure represents the sites which are
totally damaged and are un-operational.
 However, the cost incurred to repair/recover the damaged sites
have not been included. It may be around Rs. 10 t0 15 Lac per site.
 This is only a snapshot of damage incurred till September 2010.
 Therefore, the total cost estimate is likely to increase significantly.
