2. In our quest to enlighten the lives of children with illnesses and who are less fortunate than others, we decided to visit the Brooklyn Chest Hospital in Ysterplaat. The hospital was resurrected in 1872 and is funded by the Department of Health. Most of the children are from disadvantaged communities, hence their parents can’t afford better treatment for them. The ward which we visited is for babies, ranging from ages 8 months to 5 years old. There are approximately 33 babies in the ward. The babies are kept there for a period of 6 months for treatment and once their progress is recorded, they either get sent back home or in some cases, to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital for more intensive treatment. We took a Sunday afternoon to spend with the beauuuuuutiful little girls and boys and it will be a memory that will never ever fade!
4. This is Lorenzo, he is the oldest of the kids in this ward. He has downe syndrome as well as TB. He is 9 years old and attends Oasis School.
5. And this lovely girl is Nikita, she is Annemi’s baby! She loves playing and kept us very entertained throughout the day.
6. Lizette, Annie’s angel! She is too cute for words and refused to be put back into her cot. She is the friendliest baby ever!
7. Some of the little ones are still very ill and just lay in their cots all day…but their spirits are something we can all learn a thing or two from…
8. Thanks to the wonderful contribution of teddy bears, the kids went absolutely ballistic when they received their toys! TOO CUTE!
9. And of course, thanks to Rajeev and Caresha, who provided the lunch, the kids had a Sunday feast! Wow, it was messy but lots of fun feeding some and watching the rest dig into their grub.
10. This was one of our most enjoyable visits thus far and we will definitely be visiting the kids at the BCH again soon. To all those who contributed, whether in cash, kind, clothes, teddy bears, food, etc., words just aren’t enough to express our gratitude. You will be blessed.
