an educator, the Mathematics Education M.A.T. may be right for you!You must have a
strong interest in algebra, geometry, statistics and calculus. Our teacher candidates
embrace diversity, cutting-edge teaching strategies and innovative curriculum.
Master of Arts in Teaching
If you meet the following requirements, consider applying:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or the equivalent from an accredited college
or university
• Undergraduate GPA ≥ 2.50
• Seeking initial teacher certification in middle/secondary level education (grades
6-12) mathematics education
• Entrance exams: strong GRE General Test scores; GACE Program Admission;
Georgia Educator Ethics
Is this graduate program right for me?
Our unique cohort program can take 4 semesters to complete, beginning and ending
with the summer session.
How long does it take to complete the program?
• Most classes are held at the downtown campus and generally meet after 4:30 p.m.
• Some courses are offered online or in a hybrid format (i.e., online/classroom)
• Teacher candidates complete 20-40 hours per week of practica at a middle school
and high school in the metro Atlanta area

2. Our communities always need educators - the need for teachers is timeless and universal.Teaching is
a profession that attracts people who want to make a difference in the lives of all children and who
are passionate about learning. It is one career you can be confident you will always have a purpose.
The Georgia Department of Labor estimates employment of K-12 school teachers is projected to
grow 12% over the next six years due to projected increases in enrollment and declines in student–
teacher ratios.The largest demand is in high-needs schools in urban and rural areas and high
demand subject areas (i.e., Math, Science, Special Education and English as a Second Language).
Schools need professional educators to improve the quality of education. Earning a Master of
Education or Master of Arts in Teaching deepens your knowledge of content, pedagogy, educational
philosophy and instructional technology. Teachers with advanced degrees can be promoted to
school leadership and curriculum development positions, become mentor teachers and obtain
terminal degrees.
Myth 1: Teaching Is Not a Good Career
Teachers teach because they want to make a difference by educating and inspiring youth. Depending
on the school,teachers earn good living wages with opportunities for career and salary advancement.
According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, Georgia’s mean annual salary for K-12 teachers
ranges between $50k to $55k - and up to $6k more for high demand subject area teachers.
