Essay about the human brain
In this paper one will learn the different parts of the brain and their functions. Although the brain isn't
the largest organ of the human body it is the most complex and controlling organ. It is amazing how
complicated the brain is. The brain controls every action within and out of your body. The brain has
main areas that contain different areas that have specific functions. For instance the basal ganglia
holds the lentiform and the caudate.
The brain isn't just "THE BRAIN" it is actually a group of many parts. They help to inform the brain
on the things going on with the human body. The brain is split in to two main parts, the left and the
right hemisphere. The left hemisphere has about the same areas as the right hemisphere. The only

The corpus callosum is a bundle of nerves that connects the two hemispheres. The area that passes
and processes information concerning touch, pain, temperature, and pressure on skin is the
thalamus. The limbic system controls your behavior and emotions. It is involved in emotions such
as fear, rage, pleasure, and sorrow. In the prefrontal area of the frontal lobe emotional traits are
controlled. In the temporal lobe expressed behavior is controlled. The parietal lobe discriminates
sensory. The occipital lobe is where visual interpretation takes place. Pons is a crossroad for nerves
going up to the cortex, to the cerebellum and then down the spinal cord. The cortex is the outer gray
area where thinking takes place. The olfactory cortex receives senses from the nose that it then sorts
out. The area that identifies what we see by working out movements, colors, and shapes is the visual
cortex. The area that receives taste senses is called gustatory cortex. The area responsible for
analyzing data, performing memory functions, learning new information, forming thoughts, and
making decisions is the cerebral cortex. The motor cortex is involved in muscle movement. The
cerebellum is vital when carrying out complicated, skilled movements. It is much like a mini brain.
If before you read this paper you thought the brain was a "one man machine" I'm sure your opinion
has changed after reading his paper. It is amazing how god has created the brain to have so many

Gender-Based Violence Essay
Gender Base Violence

Gender–based Violence
Gender–based violence is understood, explained, or justified in terms of gender roles, gender
difference, or gender inequality. Most of the violence is perpetrated by men against women. Gender
–based violence is often physical abuse, often involving sexuality, but it may also be psychological.
Violence against women occurs in every segment of society. It doesn't matter what class your in
(upper, middle, lower), ethnicity (Black, White, Hispanic, Asian), culture (African–American,
German, French), or country (Europe, United States). Various forms of violence and coercion are
against women. Most of these crimes against women are...show more content...
Although most of the public attention to sexual harassment has focused on specific relations within
workplaces, harassment also takes place in public places among strangers. This shows how
commonly women are subjected to "abuse, harryings, and annoyances" on the basis of their
gender, in spaces that are supposed to be open to everyone states Carol Brooks Gardner who
studied public harassment. There are three types of public harassment outlined by Carol Brooks
Gardner. The types are exclusionary (discouraged from entering a specific place), exploitative
(when men following women around and invade their privacy), and evaluative (unwanted
evaluations of their bodies, hair, or clothing). Often this behavior is trivialized as "people are just
playing around" or "just trying to be helpful". These types of experiences results in women being
fearful of going into public places. Even though sexual harassment laws have become stricter, most
women still do not complain about it for rear that they would be penalized for complaining.
Harassment amounts simply to taking the gender–based communication, which is easy for men to
fall into the habit of engaging in behavior that women find offensive and harmful (Sapiro, 397).
Sexual harassment has taken on more specific legal

HTML, or Hypertext Markup Language, is the programming language used to build the internet. It is
the standard language for web programming, along with CSS and JavaScript. This open–format,
text–based type code is extremely versatile, and can be used to embed additional programming
languages such as JavaScript. HTML is made up of different elements called tags that dictate the
structure of the webpage that are then translated by a web browser into a user–friendly form.

My First Week Of High School Essays
First week of high school Fun, scaring, exciting are the feelings of my first week of school. This
is a brand new experience of my life having to leave my friends and teachers in middle school
behind. New school, new friends and new teachers are all part of this new school year. This one is
different though, it's the first week of high school. Most freshmen like me that enter the school are
scared. I think the first week of the school is the easiest since there would not be a lot of
homework and what you need to do is to listen to what you need for the class and know other
people well in the class. But I am wrong, as soon as you get seated on your assigned seat, new
teachers start to introduce themselves and start giving tons...show more content...

Essay On Black Lives Matter
Black Lives Matter is an international activist movement that started within the African–American
communities. This movement is organized by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi. Ever
since the black people have stepped on American soil, they have continued to be victims of racism
and violence. From slavery to lynching to segregation, the black people have suffered alot in this
country. In the past few years, there are so many of them that have been targeted by the law
enforcement authorities across the country. This movement's goal is to raise awareness of racism and
violence against African–Americans. They wants African–American to live with dignity and respect
like other Americans do.

This video shows how protesters block all lanes of I–94. The police officers gave them twenty five
warning to leave. Yet, some people chose to stay and continue to protest. According to the police,
the protest turned into a riot and some people threw rocks and bottles on the freeway. During this
act of violence, twenty one police officers were injured. In order to cease those protestors, the police
officer used non–irritant smoke and sprayed mace. At the end of the protest, 50 people were arrested
for three degree rioting.
There is usually a protest after an unarmed black person is killed by a police officer. By
protesting, they try to seek attention to shooting of black people by disrupting commerce and
preventing people from commuting to one place to another. After Alton Sterling and Philando
Cartile were shot by a police officer, the Black Lives Matter marched on the streets and blocked
highways in July 2016 in Minnesota. In December 2015, they even disrupt local business on a busy
holiday shopping with peaceful protest. Despite getting warnings, the Black Lives Matter
organization gathered in a Minnesota Mall. They compelled some of the stores to be closed for
hours. They said there will not be any business until they get

Minecraft Essay
Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using
the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the
trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been
released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man,
Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that
it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a
company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time but after a giant popularity spike he
realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began...show more content...
The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on
January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity
increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and
published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000
a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang
has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl
Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few
people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few
employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who
buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such
success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans.
One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it
truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will
they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation
concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same
genre. What if nobody likes the game? What

Lebanon Essay
Lebanon
Lebanon, a nation that once proudly called itself the Switzerland of the Middle
East, is today a country in name only. Its government controls little more than half of the nation's
capital, Beirut. Its once–vibrant economy is a shambles.
And its society is fragmented – so fragmented, some believe, that it may be impossible to re–create a
unified state responsive to the needs of all its varied peoples.
Lebanon lies on the eastern shore of the Mediterranea n Sea, in that part of southwestern Asia known
as the Middle East. Because of its location – at the crossroads of Asia, Europe, and Africa– Lebanon
has been the center of commerce and trade for thousands of years. It has also been on the route of
numerous conquering armies....show more content...
Lebanon has four distinct geographical regions: a narrow – but fertile – coastal plain; two roughly
parallel mountain ranges that run the full length of the country – the Lebanon, which rises in the
west to an alpine hei ght of 11,000 feet while the eastern range, the anti–Lebanon, is crowned
magestically by the snow–capped Mount Hermon at 9,232 feet. The two chains of mountains shelter
between them a well–cultivated plateau extending seventy miles in length and fifteen miles in
width. This tableland is called the Bekaa. This is a fertile strip of land 110 miles long and six to
ten miles wide. Zahle, the third largest city in the country, is in the valley. The country's two most
important rivers, the Litani and the Orontes, rise in the northern Bekaa near Baalbek, a city that
dates to Roman times. The Litani flows southwest through the Bekaa Valley and then empties into
the Mediterranean Sea north of Tyre. Its waters are used for irrigation, so it becomes a mere tr ickle
by the time it gets to the sea. The
Orontes rises not far from the Litani, but it flows northward between the two mountain ranges,
wending its way into Syria. Beyond the Bekaa and the anti–
Lebanon mountains, the Syrian desert only stretches east f or about 800 miles to the valley of the
Tigris and Euphrates rivers. This geography has been a determining factor for millenia in keeping
Lebanon turned toward the West.
The landscape cannot be described without mentioning the most celebrated

Camping Essay
Camping is a fun recreational activity that allows you to enjoy the outdoors, usually amidst all that
Mother Nature has to offer. People go camping in a forest, national park, in the woods, near a river
or lake, and can stay there for one or more nights. There are private campgrounds as well that are
privately owned by people who encourage campers to come and enjoy the nature with them.
Camping trips can be fun when organized properly.
There are many questions that you might want to ask as a new camper. Following is a list of
common questions that every beginner for camping will ask. I'll recommend not to take up camping,
until you get all your questions answered and understand the requirements what all is expected.
Where Do I Camp?

If you camp in wilderness, you will need to carry a tent, a cooler for your camping food and drinks,
sleeping bags and pads, cooking supplies like charcoal and spatula, kettle, cups, plates, spoons and
a pot or two. You can buy all the camping gear in sports store or at Walmart. Don't buy expensive
equipment as you are not yet experienced in taking care of them.
If you camp at public campgrounds, there is a good chance that you will get a grill or a barbecue
and all the cooking ingredients from the camp store. Aside from that, you will have to carry the other
necessities like clothes, tents, sleeping bags, from home with you.
What Clothes Do I Carry While Camping?
Make sure that you wear full sleeves while camping. It is important to carry some sweaters with
you so that you are protected in case it becomes cold at night in the woods. It is better to take
some extra change of clothes with you. Rain gear is also important, so be sure to bring a poncho
and an umbrella. You will also want to have plenty of extra socks; in case the ones you are wearing
get wet.
How To Set Up A camp?
While setting up your camp, you will have to consider a lot of things. Pitching tents at an elevated
spot is essential, but make sure that you don't select a spot on a slope. It would be best to choose a
spot close to a water source like a spring to avoid wasting time in getting water. While looking for
the above two conditions when setting up your tent, also look

Perspectives
Life Span & Introduction to Sociology
PSYC–2314–S03
In class we have been discussing the analogy of perspectives. A perspective is a way of seeing,
also thought of as a 'point of view'. This mental view or outlook can both enhance and constrain
how we view the world in our own eyes. In the field of psychology and sociology there are many
ways to perceive our world in which we live. No one perspective alone can define the world. Each
perspective has its own distinctive strengths and blind spots. In class we have discussed different
theories and analogies to better understand the complexity of perspectives. Perspectives will both
facilitate and constrain perception. A good example of this statement is the Burke...show more

Even when that one perspective may not be the most accurate way of viewing something in a
particular situation, it can be tempting neglect other perspectives or "tools". The example given
in class was Freud and his psychosexual theories. Freud believed that everything we did was a
result of our sexual desires. Freud's only "tool", or perspective, was this belief , and he used it
when viewing everything, even when it may have not been the best "tool for the job". Most of us
have heard the term "seeing is believing", but in class we discussed that "believing is seeing".
When you already believe something and have an idea implanted in your memory it will alter
what you think you are seeing. In class we observed many slides of different pictures portraying
how believing is seeing. One specific example from the slide show was one image that contained
two completely different pictures depending on how you looked at the picture. Before showing
us the image for the first time the pervious slide stated "Cowboys Crossing the Creek". When the
image appeared you automatically saw cowboys on horses crossing a creek. Then we were shown
a slide stating "Faces Everywhere". This time when the same exact image was shown for the
second time, you saw faces everywhere in the image. This is because you already had an idea placed
in your mind causing you to see what you already believe. Referring to the familiar

Residential Schools in Canada Essay
Sociology
Dr.C.Barry McClinchey
Residential Schools in Canada Before the nineteenth century, the Aboriginal people had their own
way of teaching the children in their community, through organic education. In addition to providing
knowledge and skills, organic education kept their culture alive (Ravelli & Webber, 2013: pg.
237). This is because the Aboriginal children would also be taught about their culture and its
customs. But the Europeans thought, "Canada's First Nation peoples were in the way of the
relentless onrush of capitalist and industrial expansion (Ravelli & Webber, 2013: pg. 238)."
This is when the residential education system was established. Since the organic education was what

238). These children were harshly abused by the nuns in these schools and were terrified of being
there. There were many sociological concepts applied in the film, Education As We See It. Language
is an important part to culture. Language extinction is a concept presented in the film. When a
language is lost, then its culture will start losing its organization. Killing the language of the
Aboriginals will lead end their culture, which is what the Europeans wanted. By forcing the
Aboriginal children to speak English, the language they spoke with their parents will be lost
(Ravelli & Webber, 2013: pg. 131). An Aboriginal that went to a residentialschool described
how they weren't allowed to speak a word of their language at all and they were restricted from
seeing their parents on a regular basis (Bob, Geraldine & Marcuse, 1993). The nuns greatly
enforced that these children not speak their language, so that they could completely forget about it.
Looking–glass self was a concept that was applied. Looking glass self is how people describe who
they are by how others describe them. According to C.H. Cooley, have to envision themselves
through social interactions because the mind does not create the "self" (Ravelli & Webber,
2013: pg. 153). An Aboriginal said that when she was younger and first went to the school, the
teacher checked attendance and when she said her name, she answered "here" in her language and

Essay About Heartbreak
The reasons for their heartbreak We all felt the emotion love once or many times in our lives. It's a
wonderful thing where we have someone else that we know likes and loves us for who we are and
will be there for us when we need it. I've felt like this before and I'm sure we have all fallen for
someone. Although, it's nice when we have someone we love it's sad when we see them go and we
end up heartbroken and devastated by the loss. These two songs reveal that heartbreak can hurt after
a relationship has ended and how to cope with the pain to better ourselves and they explain that
through the song styles, the lyrics, and how the lovers coped with the pain after their heartbreak.
First off, I will talk about the song styles and show how...show more content...
In the same way, in the other song "Adios Amor" the lyrics talk about the boy loving and being
with the girl that he loves but he finds her cheating on him for someone else and he gets sad. In
the lyrics "porque me fallaste" he says how she betrayed him for cheating on him and that not
nothing is the same after her leaving "ya nada es igual". Both songs showed that heartbreak can
be painful especially since you love the person and if they just cheat on you and leave you for
someone else. Although, the song lyrics are similar about how both group of lovers were
betrayed and heartbroken they both took different routes to cope to the pain. One took a way you
shouldn't have which was to get drunk and try to forget her. The other took the right way to think
of the times you had with her and move on and find someone to help you feel better. In the song
"Adios Amor" the guy took a route you shouldn't take and that is to get drink. In the article that is
one of the ways you shouldn't use to cope with heartbreak. When dealing with heart you should
"cut out alcohol" (Schwecherl). Instead of drinking you should "recall the emotions and thoughts"
to see where the relationship ended and to better prepare yourself to know how to handle it
(Schwecherl). On the other hand, the song "Tu me vas a llorar" the man knows how to cope with
the heartbreak and doesn't resort to alcohol to feel better. As I stated before he recalls the memories
he had with her

The foundation of the German banking system is well developed. Germany was the first bureau in

"Times sure have changed" is a quote that comes to mind when thinking of the different between

Essay about Gymnastics
Gymnastics is a sport that requires strength, flexibility, dedication, and determination. However,
gymnastics also requires the ability to be graceful and delicate. For many years people have been
dedicating themselves to this sport, training for either artistic or rhythmic gymnastics. The sport of
gymnastics has been around for many years. Originating around 2,500 years ago makes it one of
the oldest sports. People believe that the first "apparatus" used was actually a bull. Men would grab
onto the bull's horns and when they were thrown in the air they would try to perform the best stunt
before landing (Gutman, 1). Gymnastics originated in Greece where they believed that physical

Along with the previous activities he added the parallel bars and the pommel horse (Gutman, 6). In
modern gymnastics there are two different types, one of them being artistic gymnastics. For female
gymnasts there are four different events: floor exercise, uneven bars, vault, and balance beam
(Gymnastics, 1). When they compete gymnasts usually perform on all four of the events. The
first event is the floor exercise. Gymnasts perform on a square spring floor covered in carpet.
They can either perform a required routine, which shows only the basic skills, or an optional
routine, which allows more difficult skills and more creativity. A floor routine consists of
tumbling, leaping, and stationary displays of balance, strength, and flexibility, along with
graceful dancing. All of this is performed to music with no words (Gymnastics, 1). The second
event is the uneven bars. The uneven bars are two wooden or fiberglass rails held on uprights.
The high bar is seven feet above the floor, and the low bar is five feet above the floor. Gymnasts
swing from one bar to the other by executing releases and catches. The dismount, which is usually a
flip or twist from the high bar, finishes the routine (Gymnastics, 4). The third event is the vault. A
gymnast runs down a runway, jumps on a springboard, and performs flips or twists off the vaulting
horse. The runway is typically sixty–five feet long, and the horse is four and a half feet high

  • 1. Essay about the human brain In this paper one will learn the different parts of the brain and their functions. Although the brain isn't the largest organ of the human body it is the most complex and controlling organ. It is amazing how complicated the brain is. The brain controls every action within and out of your body. The brain has main areas that contain different areas that have specific functions. For instance the basal ganglia holds the lentiform and the caudate. The brain isn't just "THE BRAIN" it is actually a group of many parts. They help to inform the brain on the things going on with the human body. The brain is split in to two main parts, the left and the right hemisphere. The left hemisphere has about the same areas as the right hemisphere. The only ...show more content... The corpus callosum is a bundle of nerves that connects the two hemispheres. The area that passes and processes information concerning touch, pain, temperature, and pressure on skin is the thalamus. The limbic system controls your behavior and emotions. It is involved in emotions such as fear, rage, pleasure, and sorrow. In the prefrontal area of the frontal lobe emotional traits are controlled. In the temporal lobe expressed behavior is controlled. The parietal lobe discriminates sensory. The occipital lobe is where visual interpretation takes place. Pons is a crossroad for nerves going up to the cortex, to the cerebellum and then down the spinal cord. The cortex is the outer gray area where thinking takes place. The olfactory cortex receives senses from the nose that it then sorts out. The area that identifies what we see by working out movements, colors, and shapes is the visual cortex. The area that receives taste senses is called gustatory cortex. The area responsible for analyzing data, performing memory functions, learning new information, forming thoughts, and making decisions is the cerebral cortex. The motor cortex is involved in muscle movement. The cerebellum is vital when carrying out complicated, skilled movements. It is much like a mini brain. If before you read this paper you thought the brain was a "one man machine" I'm sure your opinion has changed after reading his paper. It is amazing how god has created the brain to have so many areas Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Gender-Based Violence Essay Gender Base Violence ENG 122 Alfred Penny Jr. Saint Leo College Gender–based Violence Gender–based violence is understood, explained, or justified in terms of gender roles, gender difference, or gender inequality. Most of the violence is perpetrated by men against women. Gender –based violence is often physical abuse, often involving sexuality, but it may also be psychological. Violence against women occurs in every segment of society. It doesn't matter what class your in (upper, middle, lower), ethnicity (Black, White, Hispanic, Asian), culture (African–American, German, French), or country (Europe, United States). Various forms of violence and coercion are against women. Most of these crimes against women are...show more content... Although most of the public attention to sexual harassment has focused on specific relations within workplaces, harassment also takes place in public places among strangers. This shows how commonly women are subjected to "abuse, harryings, and annoyances" on the basis of their gender, in spaces that are supposed to be open to everyone states Carol Brooks Gardner who studied public harassment. There are three types of public harassment outlined by Carol Brooks Gardner. The types are exclusionary (discouraged from entering a specific place), exploitative (when men following women around and invade their privacy), and evaluative (unwanted evaluations of their bodies, hair, or clothing). Often this behavior is trivialized as "people are just playing around" or "just trying to be helpful". These types of experiences results in women being fearful of going into public places. Even though sexual harassment laws have become stricter, most women still do not complain about it for rear that they would be penalized for complaining. Harassment amounts simply to taking the gender–based communication, which is easy for men to fall into the habit of engaging in behavior that women find offensive and harmful (Sapiro, 397). Sexual harassment has taken on more specific legal Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 6. Minecraft Essay Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man, Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a company. The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000 a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans. One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same genre. What if nobody likes the game? What Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Lebanon Essay Lebanon Lebanon, a nation that once proudly called itself the Switzerland of the Middle East, is today a country in name only. Its government controls little more than half of the nation's capital, Beirut. Its once–vibrant economy is a shambles. And its society is fragmented – so fragmented, some believe, that it may be impossible to re–create a unified state responsive to the needs of all its varied peoples. Lebanon lies on the eastern shore of the Mediterranea n Sea, in that part of southwestern Asia known as the Middle East. Lebanon has four distinct geographical regions: a narrow – but fertile – coastal plain; two roughly parallel mountain ranges that run the full length of the country – the Lebanon, which rises in the west to an alpine hei ght of 11,000 feet while the eastern range, the anti–Lebanon, is crowned magestically by the snow–capped Mount Hermon at 9,232 feet. The two chains of mountains shelter between them a well–cultivated plateau extending seventy miles in length and fifteen miles in width. This tableland is called the Bekaa. This is a fertile strip of land 110 miles long and six to ten miles wide. Zahle, the third largest city in the country, is in the valley. The country's two most important rivers, the Litani and the Orontes, rise in the northern Bekaa near Baalbek, a city that dates to Roman times. The Litani flows southwest through the Bekaa Valley and then empties into the Mediterranean Sea north of Tyre. Its waters are used for irrigation, so it becomes a mere tr ickle by the time it gets to the sea. The Orontes rises not far from the Litani, but it flows northward between the two mountain ranges, wending its way into Syria. Beyond the Bekaa and the anti– Lebanon mountains, the Syrian desert only stretches east f or about 800 miles to the valley of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. This geography has been a determining factor for millenia in keeping Lebanon turned toward the West. You will also want to have plenty of extra socks; in case the ones you are wearing get wet. How To Set Up A camp? While setting up your camp, you will have to consider a lot of things. Pitching tents at an elevated spot is essential, but make sure that you don't select a spot on a slope. A perspective is a way of seeing, also thought of as a 'point of view'. This mental view or outlook can both enhance and constrain how we view the world in our own eyes. In the field of psychology and sociology there are many ways to perceive our world in which we live. No one perspective alone can define the world. Each perspective has its own distinctive strengths and blind spots. In class we have discussed different theories and analogies to better understand the complexity of perspectives. Perspectives will both facilitate and constrain perception. A good example of this statement is the Burke...show more content... Even when that one perspective may not be the most accurate way of viewing something in a particular situation, it can be tempting neglect other perspectives or "tools". The example given in class was Freud and his psychosexual theories. Freud believed that everything we did was a result of our sexual desires. Freud's only "tool", or perspective, was this belief , and he used it when viewing everything, even when it may have not been the best "tool for the job". Most of us have heard the term "seeing is believing", but in class we discussed that "believing is seeing". When you already believe something and have an idea implanted in your memory it will alter what you think you are seeing. In class we observed many slides of different pictures portraying how believing is seeing. One specific example from the slide show was one image that contained two completely different pictures depending on how you looked at the picture. Before showing us the image for the first time the pervious slide stated "Cowboys Crossing the Creek". When the image appeared you automatically saw cowboys on horses crossing a creek. Then we were shown a slide stating "Faces Everywhere". This time when the same exact image was shown for the second time, you saw faces everywhere in the image. This is because you already had an idea placed in your mind causing you to see what you already believe. Referring to the familiar Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Residential Schools in Canada Essay Sociology Dr.C.Barry McClinchey Residential Schools in Canada Before the nineteenth century, the Aboriginal people had their own way of teaching the children in their community, through organic education. In addition to providing knowledge and skills, organic education kept their culture alive (Ravelli & Webber, 2013: pg. 237). This is because the Aboriginal children would also be taught about their culture and its customs. But the Europeans thought, "Canada's First Nation peoples were in the way of the relentless onrush of capitalist and industrial expansion (Ravelli & Webber, 2013: pg. 238)." These children were harshly abused by the nuns in these schools and were terrified of being there. There were many sociological concepts applied in the film, Education As We See It. Language is an important part to culture. Language extinction is a concept presented in the film. When a language is lost, then its culture will start losing its organization. Killing the language of the Aboriginals will lead end their culture, which is what the Europeans wanted. By forcing the Aboriginal children to speak English, the language they spoke with their parents will be lost (Ravelli & Webber, 2013: pg. 131). An Aboriginal that went to a residentialschool described how they weren't allowed to speak a word of their language at all and they were restricted from seeing their parents on a regular basis (Bob, Geraldine & Marcuse, 1993). The nuns greatly enforced that these children not speak their language, so that they could completely forget about it. Looking–glass self was a concept that was applied. Looking glass self is how people describe who they are by how others describe them. According to C.H. • 11. Essay About Heartbreak The reasons for their heartbreak We all felt the emotion love once or many times in our lives. It's a wonderful thing where we have someone else that we know likes and loves us for who we are and will be there for us when we need it. I've felt like this before and I'm sure we have all fallen for someone. Although, it's nice when we have someone we love it's sad when we see them go and we end up heartbroken and devastated by the loss. These two songs reveal that heartbreak can hurt after a relationship has ended and how to cope with the pain to better ourselves and they explain that through the song styles, the lyrics, and how the lovers coped with the pain after their heartbreak. In the same way, in the other song "Adios Amor" the lyrics talk about the boy loving and being with the girl that he loves but he finds her cheating on him for someone else and he gets sad. In the lyrics "porque me fallaste" he says how she betrayed him for cheating on him and that not nothing is the same after her leaving "ya nada es igual". Both songs showed that heartbreak can be painful especially since you love the person and if they just cheat on you and leave you for someone else. Although, the song lyrics are similar about how both group of lovers were betrayed and heartbroken they both took different routes to cope to the pain. One took a way you shouldn't have which was to get drunk and try to forget her. The other took the right way to think of the times you had with her and move on and find someone to help you feel better. In the song "Adios Amor" the guy took a route you shouldn't take and that is to get drink. In the article that is one of the ways you shouldn't use to cope with heartbreak. When dealing with heart you should "cut out alcohol" (Schwecherl). Instead of drinking you should "recall the emotions and thoughts" to see where the relationship ended and to better prepare yourself to know how to handle it (Schwecherl). On the other hand, the song "Tu me vas a llorar" the man knows how to cope with the heartbreak and doesn't resort to alcohol to feel better. • 14. Then and Now Essay Now and Then Interview "Times sure have changed" is a quote that comes to mind when thinking of the different between being an adolescent today compared to being an adolescent sixty years ago. To find out more about the differences I was able to speak with a male, currently age 82, and a female age 18. I am familiar with both of these individuals one, a close friend of the family, and my cousin's daughter was able to answer some questions for me also. These two people both grew up in the United States. The eighty–two year old lived in Kentucky as an adolescent. The eighteen year old currently resides in Arkansas. Working from such a young age in his home doing mandatory chores, and additionally having to work outside the home to help his father gave him a strong work ethic. Even though he is retired, this gentleman still lives alone, owns three vehicles, which he does all basic maintenance himself. Reading from the text book on page 419, the author makes it seem that working at a young age can harm an adolescent. This goes against my personal beliefs and what I found in doing these interviews, going to school and working helped both of my interview subjects, and from my own personal experience, it gave even me a better sense of responsibility and expectation for becoming an adult. From questions about school and job situations I moved into asking these individuals about the relationships they have or had with their parents. The elderly man shared that his community was small, so his parents would warn that if he did something wrong it would get back to them. He claimed that he and his siblings knew to "just be a good citizen," and if they did something wrong not only would their parents find out, but neighbors would correct them verbally if they were found to do something inappropriate, "it was a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Originating around 2,500 years ago makes it one of the oldest sports. People believe that the first "apparatus" used was actually a bull. Along with the previous activities he added the parallel bars and the pommel horse (Gutman, 6). In modern gymnastics there are two different types, one of them being artistic gymnastics. For female gymnasts there are four different events: floor exercise, uneven bars, vault, and balance beam (Gymnastics, 1). When they compete gymnasts usually perform on all four of the events. The first event is the floor exercise. Gymnasts perform on a square spring floor covered in carpet. They can either perform a required routine, which shows only the basic skills, or an optional routine, which allows more difficult skills and more creativity. A floor routine consists of tumbling, leaping, and stationary displays of balance, strength, and flexibility, along with graceful dancing. All of this is performed to music with no words (Gymnastics, 1). The second event is the uneven bars. The uneven bars are two wooden or fiberglass rails held on uprights. The high bar is seven feet above the floor, and the low bar is five feet above the floor. Gymnasts swing from one bar to the other by executing releases and catches. The dismount, which is usually a flip or twist from the high bar, finishes the routine (Gymnastics, 4). The third event is the vault. A gymnast runs down a runway, jumps on a springboard, and performs flips or twists off the vaulting horse. The runway is typically sixty–five feet long, and the horse is four and a half feet high (Gymnastics, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
