Reflective Essay: Lessons Learned
This is assignment was one of the first writing assignments I have written since graduating high
school in 2005. While writing this essay I learned several things about myself and become
extremely excited when I learned I had earned 8 out of 10 points after submitting this assignment.
This first part of writing this essay was to pick a topic to write about. I decided to choose acne for
the simple reason when I was growing up I had acne but finally grew out of it. After I decide on
the topic I had to gather the information for the essay itself which was not that easy. I had to gather
the information from different websites and was also able to find celebrates that revealed their
stories on the Proactiv website. Once I gathered the information required for the assignment I
began writing which was difficult at first but once I was able to get started it seemed to become
easier. The only thing I would change about my paper if given the chance would be to organize
the paper a little bit better. I would also try to apply different words that are not used in everyday
writing, this might have helped me with my grade however using larger words could also hurt my
paper if I did not use them correctly....show more content...
I noticed my work cited page was not on its own page after I had already submitted the
assignment. I also had several different mistakes that I did not noticed after submitting the paper
but once I was given guidance by my Instructor I believe I was able to correct the work cited page
correctly to meet MLA standards. I know that with the information and guidance I have learned
during this assignment I feel that I will be able to correctly write a successful essay assignment
during my college career along with my career as a Law Enforcement

The circular process by which our thoughts affect our actions, which affect the situation we are

How do I feel now? Could I have acted differently? What have I learnt? How will that influence my
future practice? What has the incident taught me about my values and/or my belief system? What
ethical principles were involved?
Once you have completed the process, it would be valuable to evaluate it again, with a colleague or
with a professional mentor to clarify the main issues, the learning involved and the impact on your

Reflective Essay
Introduction
People often spend at least few minutes every day before the mirror.
Why do you stand before a mirror? What do you see when you look at the mirror? 'You', right?
Technically speaking we stand before a mirror to analyze ourselves by looking at our own reflection
in the mirror.
The same can be said about the reflective compositions. A reflective composition is the result of
introspection into past experiences or memorable events in our lives.
We introspect into these memorable events and reflect over them with regards the emotions and
influences they have left in our lives.
In simple words a reflective essay is a piece of 'you' being presented in words.
What is Reflection?
In a reflective composition you really need to...show more content...
It analyzes and shows the reader the significance of a particular event or experience and its
credibility and universal application.
Synthesis
A reflective essay expresses how do the components of your experience relate or react in the given
situation, how similar experiences and interactions introduced changes in your outlook, what have
you learned from your experience etc.
Evaluation
A reflective essay should evaluate your experience. It shows your attitude towards the subject, your
degree of subjectivity, how it affected you, what you accept or reject, how the experience will help
you to perceive or act differently in the future etc.
IT IS PURPOSEFUL
A reflective essay is not merely scribbling some thoughts that come up in your mind. It has a
definitive purpose that you want to accomplish – to learn, to improve, to demonstrate an insight
through your essay.
IT IS FORMAL
Of course, a reflective essay is personal, reflective and based on experience and observations but at
the same time the style of presentation should be standardized. One has to use the standard format
for preparing a reflective essay.
STRUCTURE OF A REFLECTIVE ESSAY
A reflective essay is a form of writing that examines and observes the individual experience. When
writing a reflective essay, it is important to use descriptive language.
Reflective essays are based upon your own experiences, so it is expected that you write about
yourself, your ideas and your opinions. As a result, it is

Reflecting on your learning through writing is a very effective way to show what you know and
understand. As a future teacher, you will be constantly reflecting on the students in your classroom,
your teaching, and what you could do differently next time. To help you begin to develop this
reflective practice this semester as you write about the things you learned from your readings, your
own experiences as a writer, and your classroom experiences with your peers.
The purpose of this assignment is to help you summarize and react to your readings and
experiences. Each response will contain a summary and response to the readings for the week.
Identify 3 impressionable quotes from readings (e.g., wow––hit you as important, something you
disagree with, makes you wonder, A–Ha moment). Provide the quote and the page number (and text)
where the quote is located.
After identifying the quotes, explain why you chose those three and reflect on their importance in
the context of the reading and how they help you think about writing instruction. These three quotes
should represent three main ideas of the readings and be thoroughly described with reflections about
how you as a writing teacher can implement these ideas into your classroom. Answer the question:
What do you see as the primary advantages of teaching genre with purpose? What might be
challenging about this approach?
Based on the quotes you chose and the reflection you wrote, bring 2 questions about the readings

Reflective Essay
It is astonishing that my journey through English class has come to a close. My path has been a
smooth and enjoyable one, and it is with great sadness that I begin to gather up the ends of my
literary education. I know that I will continue to grow and develop as a critical reader/thinker
throughout my life, but I will miss the educational structure that has shaped my literary
understanding for the last year. I consider my greatest strengths as a writer to be my insightfulness
and creative slant with which I approach my work. I understand most styles of writing and I
enthusiastically grasp the text with an eagerness to understand and relate to it. I enjoyed gathering
research for essays and try to explain them to my audience....show more content...
I have also gone from being content with reading a piece once or twice to not being satisfied until
I have read the piece multiple times in fear that I may have missed some crucial element. Looking
for fundamentals other than just theme, development of characters, etc. shows how much I have
matured. I have learned so much throughout this process of writing and revising these essays. It
has become very clear to me that a piece of writing is never perfect; something can always be
reworded or reorganized to make for a more clear presentation. I have also learned how biased a
writer has become. After working with these pieces for so long, I have seen how a writer can
become "blind" to sections in his/her work. The most important thing that I have realized is
discovering just how much I enjoyed English and how I really would like to further my education.
My athletics essay is the one of which I am most proud. I took such an interest in my athletics paper;
I was able to get a autographed picture of Lute Olsen, when talking with the athletic director. I feel
especially connected to that story because that I associated myself with the controversy of student
athletes. I also think that the essay is quite sophisticated and takes a mature view of school affairs.
The essay accomplishes a lot and shows my development as a "principled thinker." I am very proud

English 101 Reflective Essay
English 101 has been such an adventure. I know that sounds corny, but I just couldn't help myself.
When I decided to do a short–term English class, I thought it would be fun and challenging; My
expectations were correct. As I write this reflection, I look back on the topics and assignments that
existed in this short period of time from post 1 to the multi–modal project. I will list the challenges I
experienced which creating the creative project, what I learned from the beginning of class to the
end, and what I need to work on in the future. This English adventure started on post 1 and 2 and
ended at the multi–modal project. When I first did post 1 and 2 ,I was excited because we were
incorporating fallacies to our discussions. I previously learned more about fallacies and ethos,
pathos, and logos from a previous communications course and I appreciated the review. I found
that it was challenging to respond properly to posts created by other classmates. My initial
response was always to support each and every classmate by telling them that they did an awesome
job. I had trouble analyzing their work without agreeing with every claim. The multi model project
brought tears to my eyes and I do not mean tears of joy. At first I loved my ideas and was excited
about the outcome, but my stress and nervousness...show more content...

Reflection On Experience In Reading And Writing
Reflective Essay
As far as writing is concerned, it has never been a greater pleasure of mine than to write about
something. This semester has provided me with a bundle of opportunities to write about a plethora
of topics which I would not even have considered on second thoughts otherwise. The aim of this
reflective essay is to discuss my Literacy Narrative "Experience in Reading and Writing". I decided to
reflect on this essay as it shows my learning path of the English language. This reflection will
analyze the learning process I went through and how it was applied. The process of learning a
language is to be able to understand, read, write and speak it effectively in order to enable
communication. I will also discuss the obstacles that I faced and how I came through from it
with proper guidance. The essay is to reflect on my role as a student, guided by peers and guides
in search of verbosity. Moreover, the essay is proof of how far I have come from having ideas all
over the place and not making sense. This essay shows that I can frame my thought coherently and
provide a central topic around which everything could be related to. I believe that the essay would
be inspiring and can help others understand that language is no barrier if you work on it and shall
become one of the most important tools in life.
Most of the time when I plan on learning something, it so happens that I cannot focus on one
single idea or be able to link a group of ideas together. This has for most parts prevented me from
taking an initiative to write about it. Writing something proved challenging as whatever I wrote had
to be structurally and grammatically correct. Consequently, the pressure of managing these
problems made it difficult to have a meaningful subject that could be rhetorically satisfactory. This
essay introduces the issue initially as tries to put in the factors that were responsible for it. The
primary audience for this essay would be myself and my instructor, so the main aim was to
understand my own triumphs and tribulations this semester. While it is true that others might read
this essay, I decided to write on an issue that everyone would have experienced. For this reason, I
decided to write about learning a

class has helped me understand the importance of documentation in a research skill. English
composition showed me that sources either make or break your essay. The true honesty of this
course was that I am glad I took it. At first, I hate this class so much, because this class required so
much extra work to be done, but over time I realized that the extra work really pushes you over the

Reflective Essay On English 101
Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement.
English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric, provided the framework to good writing,
teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and
expressing a clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build
on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject matter research process and
employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader.
The course also improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my
target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate language and structure, and
critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows
there's always room to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and
personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired me to grow into a much
better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good
writer, but a great writer.
Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in
one direction or another. Reflecting on the many skills I honed in English 102, my predetermined
use of rhetorical strategies (ethos, logos, pathos), developing a concise thesis statement, and clearly

Reflective Essay On Interdisciplinary Studies
Reflective Essay From this journey of interdisciplinary studies that I have embarked on I am at the
beginning phases with this introductory course. I have crossed the stage of glossary terms and
figuring out how to apply them to real life scenarios. I feel that the most eye–opening chapter for me
was Chapter 3, which covered the "Cognitive Toolkit" that is the part of the course where I knew
the concepts were coming together for me. Expressing what interdisciplinary studies means to me,
how important integration is, and how my views have change and will change in the future has
been fulfilling. Interdisciplinary studies is a cognitive process by which individuals or groups
draw on disciplinary perspectives and integrate their insights and modes of thinking to advance
their understanding of a complex problem with the goal of applying the understanding to a real
world problem (Refko, Szostak, & Buchberger, 2014). It is a process of drawing on more than one
discipline's unique view of reality, using advanced understanding, and being able to tackle a complex
problem or question through the integration of insights. Interdisciplinary work is a means to achieve
an outcome that can assume and abstract or...show more content...

core of the interdisciplinary process and is reached by blending concepts. Without integration,

Facing My Challenges
As I came to English 45, I thought it was going to be a tough class, because it's an accelerated class.
An accelerated class tends to be a fast–past class that covers 2 classes in one. When I got to English
45 I assumed that it wouldn't be tough, although the results were opposites, English 45 gave me
many challenged to face throughout the whole semester. Throughout this semester English 45 has
thought me many different techniques to improve my English and writing. Ever since the first day, I
felt confident about everything, although my confidence wasn't always right because I learned that
the grading and essay structure is different. When I got back the first essay that we did, I saw the
challenges that I would be facing throughout the semester, because of each teacher/professor grades
differently.
Ater learning what a professor expects on a paper, still left me with doubts about writing a perfect
paper, because writing an essay can be written is many different ways. One challenged that occurred
to me throughout the semester, was not being able to write at least a four–page essay. As well as not
knowing the structure, or how a paper is formatted, was also a challenge to me because that was
one of the main things a professor looks at in college. The main challenge that I faced throughout the
whole semester was grammar and checking is the whole essay is well written. Grammar was one of

Reflective Essay: The Progress Of My Writing
The progress of my writing has consisted of overcoming struggles as well as enhancing my strengths.
Some in which will include style, organization, evidence, focused topic, etc. Undoubtedly, there are
numerous elements of writing to establish a clear statement regarding the topic discussed. Elements
that I have been focused on and implemented are the introductions that describe an overview of the
topic along.
Furthermore, some components that I consider while I'm beginning to write an essay or report is to
always look for evidence that the author presents throughout his argument. It's important to point
out their evidence to either support or a rebuttal and thoughts of your own. Overall, I focus on
creating a quick and simple introduction towards the text I am referring to and assemble a thesis as
well as a cliffhanger to keep the audience engaged. Likewise, I also include is transitions to form
my claims and ideas be associated with each other.
In addition, the organization is also something that I have improved on to have a concrete order to
cite a quote, the perspective of the author's claim, and show evidence or support. When using I need
to keep a reminder, that it's best if transitions are used for topic sentences and wrapping up the
evidence given previously to close out the last paragraph sentence. In...show more content...

attention to the punctuation since I'm struggling to generate a clear argument. A common mistake I
tend to do is trying to implement that it's my own point of view or perspective, going off of the
quote. To which results in adding the word "I" throughout the essay without

English Class Reflective Essay
Since beginning to write papers in English class, I have had countless successes and failures.
While many of my English classes have taught me how to improve my writing, I have not learned
very much in others. My most recent English class was last year, my sophomore year. My class
was particularly undersized; therefore, it gave each student the opportunity to have additional
individual attention. Throughout the class I experienced high points, weaknesses, and even
difficulties that I never overcame. Overall, my writing skills improved, but only marginally. One
of the high points of the class was consistently making high A's. We wrote a variety of different
types of papers, and my grade was always respectable. Succeeding in this class made me feel
adequately prepared to write proper papers. Although I made impressive grades for the class, I
was able to do so with only minimal effort. Therefore, I knew I could execute my papers better.
The quality of my writing seemed to stay stagnant over the course of the year. This class would
have been exponentially more beneficial had it challenged me to improve my writing, however it
never did. Although I was not overly challenged in my last English class, I have several weaknesses
as a writer. My biggest weakness is neglecting to ask important questions that could improve my

writing techniques were improved this semester. The course taught me the difference in
summarizing and paraphrasing. Summarizing is pulling out the main points of something a
person has read, and it should not be as long as the thing is being summarized. Paraphrasing
requires reading a sentence or paragraph at a time and making it into thier own words, and by
doing so changing more than just a word or two. If only a word or two is changed that is called
plagiarism, taking credit in which the work is not really theirs. I was also taught to use ethos,
pathos, and logos in my writing. I remember in class we had to tell how our clothes reflective
ethos, pathos, and logos. It really stuck with me the difference in the three and why and how I
should use them in my writing. The ethos would give me creditability that I am a believable writer,
the pathos would help give emotion and personation in my work, and the logos would contribute

economic goal and ignore employee's health, the productivity of employees would lower than
normal level or even worse. Also they may lead to negative effects on employees.
In a word, the "Model of Working Welll" is important to the organisations and individuals. After I
learned this topic, I realized that we should consider both perspectives of health ideologies. If the
organisation or individual just consider their own benefit but ignore another party's perspective, the

Reflective Essays

  • 1. Reflective Essay: Lessons Learned This is assignment was one of the first writing assignments I have written since graduating high school in 2005. While writing this essay I learned several things about myself and become extremely excited when I learned I had earned 8 out of 10 points after submitting this assignment. This first part of writing this essay was to pick a topic to write about. I decided to choose acne for the simple reason when I was growing up I had acne but finally grew out of it. After I decide on the topic I had to gather the information for the essay itself which was not that easy. I had to gather the information from different websites and was also able to find celebrates that revealed their stories on the Proactiv website. Once I gathered the information required for the assignment I began writing which was difficult at first but once I was able to get started it seemed to become easier. The only thing I would change about my paper if given the chance would be to organize the paper a little bit better. I would also try to apply different words that are not used in everyday writing, this might have helped me with my grade however using larger words could also hurt my paper if I did not use them correctly....show more content... I noticed my work cited page was not on its own page after I had already submitted the assignment. I also had several different mistakes that I did not noticed after submitting the paper but once I was given guidance by my Instructor I believe I was able to correct the work cited page correctly to meet MLA standards. I know that with the information and guidance I have learned during this assignment I feel that I will be able to correctly write a successful essay assignment during my college career along with my career as a Law Enforcement Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. Reflective Essay Introduction People often spend at least few minutes every day before the mirror. Why do you stand before a mirror? What do you see when you look at the mirror? 'You', right? Technically speaking we stand before a mirror to analyze ourselves by looking at our own reflection in the mirror. The same can be said about the reflective compositions. A reflective composition is the result of introspection into past experiences or memorable events in our lives. We introspect into these memorable events and reflect over them with regards the emotions and influences they have left in our lives. In simple words a reflective essay is a piece of 'you' being presented in words. What is Reflection? In a reflective composition you really need to...show more content... It analyzes and shows the reader the significance of a particular event or experience and its credibility and universal application. Synthesis A reflective essay expresses how do the components of your experience relate or react in the given situation, how similar experiences and interactions introduced changes in your outlook, what have you learned from your experience etc. Evaluation A reflective essay should evaluate your experience. It shows your attitude towards the subject, your degree of subjectivity, how it affected you, what you accept or reject, how the experience will help you to perceive or act differently in the future etc. IT IS PURPOSEFUL A reflective essay is not merely scribbling some thoughts that come up in your mind. It has a definitive purpose that you want to accomplish – to learn, to improve, to demonstrate an insight through your essay. IT IS FORMAL Of course, a reflective essay is personal, reflective and based on experience and observations but at the same time the style of presentation should be standardized. One has to use the standard format for preparing a reflective essay. STRUCTURE OF A REFLECTIVE ESSAY A reflective essay is a form of writing that examines and observes the individual experience. When writing a reflective essay, it is important to use descriptive language. Reflective essays are based upon your own experiences, so it is expected that you write about yourself, your ideas and your opinions. As a result, it is

  • 6. Reflective Essay Reflecting on your learning through writing is a very effective way to show what you know and understand. As a future teacher, you will be constantly reflecting on the students in your classroom, your teaching, and what you could do differently next time. To help you begin to develop this reflective practice this semester as you write about the things you learned from your readings, your own experiences as a writer, and your classroom experiences with your peers. The purpose of this assignment is to help you summarize and react to your readings and experiences. Each response will contain a summary and response to the readings for the week. Identify 3 impressionable quotes from readings (e.g., wow––hit you as important, something you disagree with, makes you wonder, A–Ha moment). Provide the quote and the page number (and text) where the quote is located. After identifying the quotes, explain why you chose those three and reflect on their importance in the context of the reading and how they help you think about writing instruction. These three quotes should represent three main ideas of the readings and be thoroughly described with reflections about how you as a writing teacher can implement these ideas into your classroom. Answer the question: What do you see as the primary advantages of teaching genre with purpose? What might be challenging about this approach? • 7. Reflective Essay It is astonishing that my journey through English class has come to a close. My path has been a smooth and enjoyable one, and it is with great sadness that I begin to gather up the ends of my literary education. I know that I will continue to grow and develop as a critical reader/thinker throughout my life, but I will miss the educational structure that has shaped my literary understanding for the last year. I consider my greatest strengths as a writer to be my insightfulness and creative slant with which I approach my work. I understand most styles of writing and I enthusiastically grasp the text with an eagerness to understand and relate to it. I enjoyed gathering research for essays and try to explain them to my audience....show more content... I have also gone from being content with reading a piece once or twice to not being satisfied until I have read the piece multiple times in fear that I may have missed some crucial element. Looking for fundamentals other than just theme, development of characters, etc. shows how much I have matured. I have learned so much throughout this process of writing and revising these essays. It has become very clear to me that a piece of writing is never perfect; something can always be reworded or reorganized to make for a more clear presentation. I have also learned how biased a writer has become. After working with these pieces for so long, I have seen how a writer can become "blind" to sections in his/her work. The most important thing that I have realized is discovering just how much I enjoyed English and how I really would like to further my education. My athletics essay is the one of which I am most proud. I took such an interest in my athletics paper; I was able to get a autographed picture of Lute Olsen, when talking with the athletic director. I feel especially connected to that story because that I associated myself with the controversy of student athletes. I also think that the essay is quite sophisticated and takes a mature view of school affairs. The essay accomplishes a lot and shows my development as a "principled thinker." • 8. English 101 Reflective Essay English 101 has been such an adventure. I know that sounds corny, but I just couldn't help myself. When I decided to do a short–term English class, I thought it would be fun and challenging; My expectations were correct. As I write this reflection, I look back on the topics and assignments that existed in this short period of time from post 1 to the multi–modal project. I will list the challenges I experienced which creating the creative project, what I learned from the beginning of class to the end, and what I need to work on in the future. This English adventure started on post 1 and 2 and ended at the multi–modal project. When I first did post 1 and 2 ,I was excited because we were incorporating fallacies to our discussions. I previously learned more about fallacies and ethos, pathos, and logos from a previous communications course and I appreciated the review. I found that it was challenging to respond properly to posts created by other classmates. My initial response was always to support each and every classmate by telling them that they did an awesome job. I had trouble analyzing their work without agreeing with every claim. The multi model project brought tears to my eyes and I do not mean tears of joy. At first I loved my ideas and was excited about the outcome, but my stress and nervousness...show more content... • 9. Reflection On Experience In Reading And Writing Reflective Essay As far as writing is concerned, it has never been a greater pleasure of mine than to write about something. This semester has provided me with a bundle of opportunities to write about a plethora of topics which I would not even have considered on second thoughts otherwise. The aim of this reflective essay is to discuss my Literacy Narrative "Experience in Reading and Writing". I decided to reflect on this essay as it shows my learning path of the English language. This reflection will analyze the learning process I went through and how it was applied. The process of learning a language is to be able to understand, read, write and speak it effectively in order to enable communication. I will also discuss the obstacles that I faced and how I came through from it with proper guidance. The essay is to reflect on my role as a student, guided by peers and guides in search of verbosity. Moreover, the essay is proof of how far I have come from having ideas all over the place and not making sense. This essay shows that I can frame my thought coherently and provide a central topic around which everything could be related to. I believe that the essay would be inspiring and can help others understand that language is no barrier if you work on it and shall become one of the most important tools in life. Most of the time when I plan on learning something, it so happens that I cannot focus on one single idea or be able to link a group of ideas together. This has for most parts prevented me from taking an initiative to write about it. Writing something proved challenging as whatever I wrote had to be structurally and grammatically correct. Consequently, the pressure of managing these problems made it difficult to have a meaningful subject that could be rhetorically satisfactory. This essay introduces the issue initially as tries to put in the factors that were responsible for it. The primary audience for this essay would be myself and my instructor, so the main aim was to understand my own triumphs and tribulations this semester. While it is true that others might read this essay, I decided to write on an issue that everyone would have experienced. For this reason, I decided to write about learning a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. English Composition Reflective Essay English composition has taught me everything I know now, from how to effectively write a thesis to grammatically fix my essay. This class fixed my writing skills to speak and write incorrect terms. English composition gave me the edge I need to take my writing skills to next level. This class has helped me understand the importance of documentation in a research skill. English composition showed me that sources either make or break your essay. The true honesty of this course was that I am glad I took it. At first, I hate this class so much, because this class required so much extra work to be done, but over time I realized that the extra work really pushes you over the edge to make your essay great. The extra work justifies your essay and molds Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Reflective Essay On English 101 Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric, provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there's always room to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer. Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in one direction or another. Reflecting on the many skills I honed in English 102, my predetermined use of rhetorical strategies (ethos, logos, pathos), developing a concise thesis statement, and clearly defining Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Growing up in Compton it was hard because every action you did had a great consequence. My parents were one of the authorities that set down a path without violence and away from drugs. One of the greatest successes that I experienced in my past was having carried over my community service from where I lived to where I am now. Carrying over my community service experience has made it better for me to be around those who I can connect with and have fun helping others. The greatest failure that I've experienced was the choice of friends that I had. With the majority of my "friends" that I had, almost all were under bad influences. After watching them live their lives without mothers I couldn't imagine how hard it was for them. The Second event is a shooting that happened at home while we were gone and my brother wasn't with us, my family and I were terrified until my mother received a call from my aunt who lived nearby, who had my brother for several hours. • 13. Reflective Essay On Interdisciplinary Studies Reflective Essay From this journey of interdisciplinary studies that I have embarked on I am at the beginning phases with this introductory course. I have crossed the stage of glossary terms and figuring out how to apply them to real life scenarios. I feel that the most eye–opening chapter for me was Chapter 3, which covered the "Cognitive Toolkit" that is the part of the course where I knew the concepts were coming together for me. Expressing what interdisciplinary studies means to me, how important integration is, and how my views have change and will change in the future has been fulfilling. Interdisciplinary studies is a cognitive process by which individuals or groups draw on disciplinary perspectives and integrate their insights and modes of thinking to advance their understanding of a complex problem with the goal of applying the understanding to a real world problem (Refko, Szostak, & Buchberger, 2014). It is a process of drawing on more than one discipline's unique view of reality, using advanced understanding, and being able to tackle a complex problem or question through the integration of insights. • 14. Reflective Writing: Facing My Challenges As I came to English 45, I thought it was going to be a tough class, because it's an accelerated class. An accelerated class tends to be a fast–past class that covers 2 classes in one. When I got to English 45 I assumed that it wouldn't be tough, although the results were opposites, English 45 gave me many challenged to face throughout the whole semester. Throughout this semester English 45 has thought me many different techniques to improve my English and writing. Ever since the first day, I felt confident about everything, although my confidence wasn't always right because I learned that the grading and essay structure is different. When I got back the first essay that we did, I saw the challenges that I would be facing throughout the semester, because of each teacher/professor grades differently. Ater learning what a professor expects on a paper, still left me with doubts about writing a perfect paper, because writing an essay can be written is many different ways. One challenged that occurred to me throughout the semester, was not being able to write at least a four–page essay. As well as not knowing the structure, or how a paper is formatted, was also a challenge to me because that was one of the main things a professor looks at in college. The main challenge that I faced throughout the whole semester was grammar and checking is the whole essay is well written. In addition, the organization is also something that I have improved on to have a concrete order to cite a quote, the perspective of the author's claim, and show evidence or support. Ultimately, I lack of sentence structure because I have an idea of what is needed to talk about, but I can't properly put it in a clear way for it to relate back to the text. Therefore, I don't put much attention to the punctuation since I'm struggling to generate a clear argument. A common mistake I tend to do is trying to implement that it's my own point of view or perspective, going off of the quote. • 17. English Class Reflective Essay Since beginning to write papers in English class, I have had countless successes and failures. While many of my English classes have taught me how to improve my writing, I have not learned very much in others. My most recent English class was last year, my sophomore year. My class was particularly undersized; therefore, it gave each student the opportunity to have additional individual attention. Throughout the class I experienced high points, weaknesses, and even difficulties that I never overcame. Overall, my writing skills improved, but only marginally. One of the high points of the class was consistently making high A's. We wrote a variety of different types of papers, and my grade was always respectable. Succeeding in this class made me feel adequately prepared to write proper papers. Although I made impressive grades for the class, I was able to do so with only minimal effort. Therefore, I knew I could execute my papers better. The quality of my writing seemed to stay stagnant over the course of the year. This class would have been exponentially more beneficial had it challenged me to improve my writing, however it never did. Although I was not overly challenged in my last English class, I have several weaknesses as a writer. My biggest weakness is neglecting to ask important questions that could improve my writing. When writing a paper, it is extremely important to revise your essay multiple times before submitting the final version. Every revision helps to build a more polished essay. I feel that my paper fails to progress enough from the rough draft to the final. To fix this, I need to give myself longer breaks between revising. Becoming skilled at revising my own papers will allow me to develop into a more competent, successful Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The grammar, neatness, relevance of the content, and the paper formatting are key aspects of the quality of writing. In the essay it was fairly simple to describe my surroundings, the sound, smell and general structure. When I started thinking of all the things I remembered from my experience in the ocean, I was able to make a gigantic list of details that I wanted to include in my essay, and I had to do some editing in order to fit the project guidelines. I wanted to convey how powerful and moving that experience was for me. I also wanted it to have a lot of vivid Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Reflective Essay Growing Words In high school my essays were about summarizing a chapter from a book or writing a short story. There was no set length it had to be and there were not any specifics to focus on such as to focus on a strong introduction or to focus on being organized when writing. The essays that I wrote in high school were just for a quick grade or to help out our grade. I did not really have that much experience in writing essays. In the past semester I have grown more as a writer than I have in the past years. My essays have been becoming more detailed and less vague. They are maturing to the standard set for my level of English. Thus far, in English 101, my writing has improved by composing different types of essays, using a variety of...show more content... It made me cite the sources using the Modern Language Association format. And the last sort ofessay was a reflection essay, in which I looked back at the semester to see how I have grown as a writer in certain areas, also to see how I can improve in the future as a writer. My skills on using various writing techniques were improved this semester. The course taught me the difference in summarizing and paraphrasing. Summarizing is pulling out the main points of something a person has read, and it should not be as long as the thing is being summarized. Paraphrasing requires reading a sentence or paragraph at a time and making it into thier own words, and by doing so changing more than just a word or two. If only a word or two is changed that is called plagiarism, taking credit in which the work is not really theirs. I was also taught to use ethos, pathos, and logos in my writing. I remember in class we had to tell how our clothes reflective ethos, pathos, and logos. It really stuck with me the difference in the three and why and how I should use them in my writing. The ethos would give me creditability that I am a believable writer, the pathos would help give emotion and personation in my work, and the logos would contribute facts and informative things. I was well educated in forming a higher quality of an essay. The essay should be organized in a formally manner that flows well. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Despite starting the quarter off sick, Josh stayed on top of work and produced his strongest essay. He constructed this essay with very little guidance and help. He demonstrated a strong understanding of the standard five paragraph: topic sentence, lead into evidence, evidence, analysis, and conclusion. Josh is the most improved and one of the strongest writers in the entire school. Next year, I hope to see Josh gain confidence in his writing ability and continue to apply what he learned. Net year, I hope to have a standing appointment, at least every other week, in order to give him a set time to work on English assignments. This should help him turn in assignments on time. As I told David, the more he writes the faster he will get at forming his ideas and the more his confidence will grow. I look forward to next year! Over the year, I have seen Maitreya grow as a writer. He now slows down and organizes his writing prior to starting. This increases his ability to create a clear and well structured essay. At times, he still struggles to pick the best evidence for his argument. When Maitreya takes time to stop and ask himself, "Does the evidence fit," he can usually answer the question correctly. Next year I hope he continues to apply what he learned this year. Ian works incredibly hard and I never need to remind him to stay on task. He works extremely well independently and because of his diligence is always the first to turn in assignments. He sets strong goals for himself and assess his success. His written work continues to improve as he develops and hones organization strategies. Next year, I hope to see Ian continue to build his lead into evidence and analysis sections of his body paragraphs. Over the year, I have seen Patrick grow as a writer. He has a much stronger understanding of the standard five paragraph essay. On independent written assignments, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
