First Meeting
1. Me, Ammr, Aferdita and Abidur met up after school to
discuss likely movie genres we could do in our film
opening. We created storyboards and mind maps, which
we will scan and upload to our blogs. We also made a list
of a few genres we liked and thought was possible to
produce an effective opening for. With this list, we each
came up with many ideas for a story line in any film
genre we felt happy with. As we picked Tre La Croix
Medley to be our key character of our film opening, I will
use him as the protagonist of each individual idea.
2. I was interested in creating a Thriller/Sci-fi film genre. The opening shot is
a black screen with pre-credits showing. When the pre-credits are
finished, the sound of an alarm clock ringing will be heard using a sound
bridge, before we cut to a birds eye view of Tre lying in bed with the alarm
clock still ringing. Then it cuts to an extreme close up showing Tre's eyes
quickly opening as if it's a sudden reaction. It then cuts to a close up of Tre
brushing his teeth, mid shot of him putting on his top and a close up of
him tying his shoelaces. As these three actions take place we will use fast
paced montage editing to speed up these actions and also emphasize to the
audience that Tre is in a rush. Then it cuts to a close up of a radio and a
focus pull is used to show Tre run out of his front door. A focus pull is
used again back to the radio, which says, "Weird disappearances have
taken place all over England. Over 1,000 disappearances have been
reported so far".
3. The camera then cuts to a long shot of Tre walking towards the camera as
we're tracking back. He's talking on his phone in Oxford Street, he says
"Yeah I’m on my way now, nearly there". Then it cuts to a POV shot of
Tre opening a door and walking in, it pans left then right showing his
friends. Tre then says, "Guys I'll be back, I need to go toilet", this then cuts
to a long shot of Tre walking into the toilet. Then it cuts to a POV shot of
Tre washing his hands and his phone begins to ring so the camera pans
right to show his phone and the caller, his girlfriend (Aferdita). We then
cut to a mid shot showing Tre putting his phone to his ear and Aferdita
says, "Thanks for a great night, maybe we can do this again somtishhhhh"
(phone cuts off). It then cuts to a long shot showing Tre going out of the
toilet and going into the room where his friends were. Then it cuts to a
POV showing Tre looking into the room and it's completely empty, and
Tre says "huh? Where’s everyone gone?" The camera then cuts back to a
long shot tracking along with Tre as he leaves the building. Then it cuts to
a mid shot, which zooms out into an establishing shot showing an empty
road. Then there is a timpani drum sound again as it jumps to a black
screen showing the title.
4. Ammr&Aferdita also came up with a film plan together. Their
idea was a Rom-com about a Muslim boy (Abidur) who is getting
an arranged marriage to a female Muslim, However he is
homosexual which therefore causes a dilemma within their story.
This is a representation of homosexuality, which challenges
religion and culture. However we didn't choose this idea for our
film opening because it may offend homosexual people as well as
Muslim believers.
5. Abidur’s idea was to create a thriller/mystery film genre; the opening
shot is a long shot that zooms into a mid shot from behind showing Tre
sitting in his sofa watching TV in a dark living room. Then a non-diegetic
door slam is heard (BANG!), it then cuts to a close up of the Tre's face
showing his surprised and confused facial expression. It then cuts to a
long shot tracking right showing him getting off his sofa and walking out
of his living room. Then it cuts to a POV shot from the doors point of
view showing a long shot of Tre looking at the camera. It then goes back
to the tracking position tracking left showing Tre going to sit back on the
sofa. Then it cuts to that same mid shot showing Tre sitting on his sofa
watching TV again. It then cuts to a worms eye view showing Tre eating
popcorn and showing a strange dark figure (KwabenaBoadu) slowly
walking behind him. As he does this, a violin sound will begin.
6. As Kwabena gets closer the violin's pitch increases building up tension
and preparing the audience for a climax. The camera then cuts to a close
up of Kwabena's hand as he pulls a cord out of his pocket. It then quickly
cuts back to the mid shot behind Kwabena showing him fiercely put the
cord around Tre's neck strangling him. Then there is constant fast paced
editing between a close up of Tre's face showing his struggle and the mid
shot of Kwabena from behind. As the struggle between Tre and Kwabena
is taking place the violin music is playing rapidly and fast to connote to
the thriller genre. It then cuts to a close up of Tre's feet slowly staying still
to reveal that he is dead. As this happens it slowly fades into a black
screen showing the title and the violin music also slowly fades to add a
mysterious atmosphere to the film, which is iconographic to the
thriller/mystery genre.
