This document summarizes the crisis management efforts around the hijacking of the ship Pompeï from April 18 to June 28, 2009. A crisis management team was assembled from CMT Jan de Nul & DEME including a negotiator, QHSE manager, fleet manager, crew manager, and insurance manager. The negotiator spoke with the pirate leader Abdi for over 31 hours over 159 conversations to secure the safe return of the crew. Stakeholders included the national crisis center in Belgium, the company's internal organization, and various embassies. Negotiations focused on the health and safety of the crew as the top priority.
