  1. Advertising on LinkedIn is a simple, effective way to increase your boost your business’s reach online. With LinkedIn Advertising, you’re in the driver’s seat: you control what your ads look like, who sees them, how often, and how much is spent. The site’s professional nature allows you to reach specific job functions and titles, ensuring you reach the exact target audience you’re looking for.
  2. Getting started with LinkedIn Advertising is simple – all it takes is an existing LinkedIn account, some ad ideas, knowledge of your target market, and a budget.
  3. Navigate to the LinkedIn Advertising page by clicking your profile picture on the top right-hand side of the page. Below, you’ll find the link to take you to LinkedIn Advertising.
  4. Click on the top right-hand side of your page to “Create a new campaign.” This will take you to the page where you’ll begin to create your ad.
  5. LinkedIn gives you the option to create an ad, or to sponsor content. Sponsored content is essentially “boosting” posts you’ve already created & shared with your connections. It’s just another way to give them added reach. Creating a new ad will allow you to develop a specific message intended for a specific audience. Today, we’re going to look at creating an advertisement on LinkedIn from start to finish.
  6. LinkedIn makes the ad creation process error-proof. With simple instructions and automated form fills, LinkedIn guides you every step of the way. Start by giving your campaign a name – something that’s easy to remember. If you have more than one campaign running at once, it’s important that each campaign have an accurate name to help you differentiate between each ad set. Choose what language your ads will be displayed in, as well as what media type you will be using. From basic media (text and images) to video, LinkedIn ads can do it all. Next, you’ll be asked what you’ll be promoting through your ads. Will you be boosting a particular page on LinkedIn, or driving traffic to your website? This is where you’re given the option to choose. You’ll be asked to include the link. TIP: On the right hand side of your screen in a yellow-toned box, you’ll see that LinkedIn provides some handy tips. Use these to build the best ad possible. Next, you’ll navigate further down the page to create your ad and any ad variations you wish. This is optional, but is a great way to do some minor A/B testing. This is the easiest way to determine what ad copy or offers are working best for your audience. Upload an image to your ad for 20% more clicks! On the right hand side, you’ll begin to see your ad take shape.
  7. Target your audience by location, company, job title and job function. Want to segment even further? LinkedIn gives you the option to view more targeting options, including targeting by age, gender and school. Watch the right hand side of your page to see your audience size change with each targeting decision you make.
  8. Decide how you’ll be paying for your campaign. Will you be paying by impression or click? We like to set up our campaigns on a cost-per-click basis. LinkedIn allows you to set a daily budget to ensure you’re not spending beyond your maximum. You’ll also be asked to determine the length of your campaign. You have the option to set an indefinite end date, or to run a campaign for as long (or little) as you choose. TIP: Turn on LinkedIn’s Lead Collection feature to connect with the people who are interested in your ad. You can toggle this “on” or “off” at any point during the campaign.
  9. Double check your payment setting, budget and targeting options. Once you’ve given it a final once-over, launch that campaign! Note: It can 24 hours for your ad to be approved by LinkedIn.
  10. Your campaign is up and running! What next? Use your LinkedIn Advertising dashboard to track your campaign and gain relevant insights to track its success. Track clicks, impressions, social actions, your budget and manage any leads you collect. It’s all possible through the LinkedIn Advertising app.
  11. Managing your campaign is possible through your Advertising dash. Use the insights you gain to tweak your campaign in order to achieve maximum results.
