port installed
because of my
prognosis being 6
months to live. My
veins began
sclerosing at the
3rd treatment and I
lost my immune
system completely
even though I was
having Neulasta
shots after each
treatment. Jan
2008 I had to also
have Neupogen
shots and almost
died twice that
month. I refused to

side effects and the
setbacks and it
may have helped. After surgery Lumpectomy Yes 35 treatments.

years 2-5 Onc
every 4 months.
The original
surgery began as a
lumpectomy but
became a partial
mastectomy and
was not
reconstructed as I
was not expected
to live. I also had
the whole axillary
area removed two
weeks after the first
surgery due to
mets and have
lymphedema in my
left side now. I
have complete
panel blood tests,
CA27.29 tumor
marker blood tests
and cbc blood
testseach onc visit,
have had extra
testing for D3
vitamin level, and
lipid panels each 6
months. I took
Tamoxifen for 2
years for any
opportunistic
cancers and then
am on
Aromasin(exemest
ane) for 3 years for
same reason. I was
%15 progesterone
positive which they
considered non-
hormone postive
but we wanted to
try everything. I will
have a Pet scan
next year and a CT
scan to compare to
an earlier one next
year. I was given a
choice on when to
have tests as
'knowing' is not
going to cure me
now. My Onc just
ordered a
colonoscopy which
revealed two pre-
cancerous polyps
which was another
thing he considers
important because

I have eliminated

begun to be able to
exercise as there
was so much Cipro
taken during chemo
that I have tendon
damage and
severe joint pain
from chemo still. I
do stair stepper
and a treadmill
daily at my home.
I have had a very
hard time from the
chemo. It was very
very hard on me
and I have not
recovered from the
chemo-fog due to
the chemo crossing
the brain/blood
barrier (as they
now admit it does).
I fatigue easily and
have a lot of pain in
my body. I have
peripheral
neuropathy and
lingering fingernail
issues. I
experience
'phantom' smells of
things which are
not there and
'phantom' crawly
feelings all which
are so realistic that
at this point I still
have to look and
make sure there is
nothing there. My
vision changed
from perfect to
needing glasses for
distance after
chemo and I have
'Ocular Migraines'
now about every 6
months or so. 3

MBC does not
seem to be
recognised in the
UK as a rare
subgroup of breast
cancer. My
oncologist does not
subgroup below the
triple negative
pathology level as
he feels it is not
helpful and would
not change his
choice of
chemotherapy. I
wonder if this puts
us at a
disadvantage in
terms of future
surveillance and
treatment options. 3

with PET scans. Yes
Palpitated August

left chest wall
between 2nd and
3rd ribs, adjacent to
left side of sternum
After receiving
radiation from my
home town
oncologist, CT
showed that the
main chest wall
tumor shrunk to 2.5
cm, and they
suggested pretty
much permanent
chemotherapy.
Also, they said that
they would not
check my progress
or do any type of
scans for 6 months.
The local surgeoun
also said that there
was nothing that
could be done for
me surgically. I
didn't like this. We
reported to MD
Anderson in
January 2011.
They initiated
abraxane & set up
the surgery that
was successful.
NED for 15 months
on estrogen
ablation because at
this time my cancer
was mildly ER+.
November, 2012:
PET scan showed
a small tumor in my
right lung middle
lobe. Pathology
came back as
"Poorly
differentiated
carcinoma,
sqamous cell,
metaplastic,
probably metastis
of breast primary".
"Tumor cells are
weakly positive for
cytokeratin 7,
negative for TTF-1,
Napsis A, GCDFP-
15, estrogen
receptor,
progesterone
receptor and HER-
2."
So this occurrence
my pathology has
changed to triple
negative,
metaplastic.

occurrence,after
radiation, I received

cycles. Good
response. NED, Yes

adjacent mammary

for disease. Poorly
diff. carcinoma.
Radiation x 35
weeks, followed by
abraxane 3 weeks
on, 1 week off x 5
rounds, followed by
sternum resection
& tram flap surgery
on 8/1/2011.
Followed with
estrogen ablation
for next 15 months
and was NED until
November, 2012.
Then along came
Metaplastic and
triple negative
status.
I increased eating
raw fruits and
vegetables,
especially
cruciferous
vegetables such as
broccoli, Kale,
cauliflower,
cabbage. Some
times I juice them.
Even though I have
been with cancer
on and off for 5
years-ish, I am new
to MBC. I'm
wondering how
many are like me
and did not start off
as metaplastic, but
changed like my
cancer did. My Dr.
at MD A tried
Carbo/gemcitabine,
then eribulin, then
navelbine, then in
August 2013, I
started a trial of
avastin,temsirolimu
s, & doxil. I had
several months of
good response with
minimal side
effects, and a few
weeks ago there
was disease
progression, so I'm
off of it. Looking for
the next trial
because I'm not
going any where!
Feel free to ask me
about anything I
wasn't clear on.

I did not have a port installed because of my prognosis being 6 months to live. My veins began sclerosing at the 3rd treatment and I lost my immune system completely even though I was having Neulasta shots after each treatment. Jan 2008 I had to also have Neupogen shots and almost died twice that month. I refused to back off schedule even with the many side effects and the setbacks and it may have helped. After surgery Lumpectomy Yes 35 treatments. 1st 2 years Onc every 3 months, years 2-5 Onc every 4 months. The original surgery began as a lumpectomy but became a partial mastectomy and was not reconstructed as I was not expected to live. I have eliminated any alcohol, diet sodas, white bread, etc... I have just begun to be able to exercise as there was so much Cipro taken during chemo that I have tendon damage and severe joint pain from chemo still. I do stair stepper and a treadmill daily at my home. I have had a very hard time from the chemo. It was very very hard on me and I have not recovered from the chemo-fog due to the chemo crossing the brain/blood barrier (as they now admit it does). I fatigue easily and have a lot of pain in my body. I have peripheral neuropathy and lingering fingernail issues. I experience 'phantom' smells of things which are not there and 'phantom' crawly feelings all which are so realistic that at this point I still have to look and make sure there is nothing there. My vision changed from perfect to needing glasses for distance after chemo and I have 'Ocular Migraines' now about every 6 months or so. 3 8/10/2012 54 2 1 0/3 I don't know this information No Yes Adriamycin/Cytoxa n (Cyclophosphamid e) every 2 weeks x 4, Taxol every 2 weeks x 4 AC every 2 weeks. My oncologist does not subgroup below the triple negative pathology level as he feels it is not helpful and would not change his choice of chemotherapy. Also, they said that they would not check my progress or do any type of scans for 6 months. The local surgeoun also said that there was nothing that could be done for me surgically. I didn't like this. We reported to MD Anderson in January 2011. They initiated abraxane & set up the surgery that was successful. NED for 15 months on estrogen ablation because at this time my cancer was mildly ER+. November, 2012: PET scan showed a small tumor in my right lung middle lobe. Pathology came back as "Poorly differentiated carcinoma, sqamous cell, metaplastic, probably metastis of breast primary". "Tumor cells are weakly positive for cytokeratin 7, negative for TTF-1, Napsis A, GCDFP- 15, estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and HER- 2." So this occurrence my pathology has changed to triple negative, metaplastic. for the second occurrence, after radiation, I received abraxane 3 weeks on, 1 week off x 5 cycles. Good response. Radiation x 35 weeks, followed by abraxane 3 weeks on, 1 week off x 5 rounds, followed by sternum resection & tram flap surgery on 8/1/2011. Followed with estrogen ablation for next 15 months and was NED until November, 2012. Then along came Metaplastic and triple negative status. I increased eating raw fruits and vegetables, especially cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Kale, cauliflower, cabbage. Some times I juice them. Even though I have been with cancer on and off for 5 years-ish, I am new to MBC. I'm wondering how many are like me and did not start off as metaplastic, but changed like my cancer did. My Dr. at MD A tried Carbo/gemcitabine, then eribulin, then navelbine, then in August 2013, I started a trial of avastin, temsirolimu s, & doxil. I had several months of good response with minimal side effects, and a few weeks ago there was disease progression, so I'm off of it. Looking for the next trial because I'm not going any where!
