TESCO at a Glance

The Casing Drive System™ (CDS™) assembly
attaches to the bottom of a top drive and
provides a means to perform the following
tasks:
Reciprocate the casing
Rotate to make up a joint of casing
Fill up and Circulate the casing
Rotate the casing string as required

Eliminates the need for large and
cumbersome travelling elevators.
Eliminates high risk “stabber” position
in derrick.
Eliminates the need for conventional
Fill-Up and Circulation Tools.
Eliminates the need for, and the
hazards of conventional power tongs in a
space restricted area.

Is quickly installed on any Top Drive system, electric or hydraulic, with

TESCO CDS™ allows simultaneous rotation, reciprocation and
circulation of the casing string enhancing capability to get casing to
bottom through troublesome well bores and gaining improved

The Single Joint Elevators and the Link Tilt Assembly work
together to pick up the joint of Casing from the V-door.

When picked-up, the Link Tilts
and Single Joint Elevator are
centered with the CDS. The
joint is lowered so that the pin
end of the Casing is stabbed
into the stump.
The CDS is then lowered into
the joint of Casing, stopping
before the Stop Bumper.

The CDS Operator then engages the
actuator and the grapples will ramp out
and grip the ID of the casing.
Once the CDS is properly engaged inside
the casing, the CDS operator signals the
driller to engage the top drive to make up
the casing to the preset torque.
Once the connection is made, the CDS tool
takes the weight of the string and the slips
are released and the string is lowered into
the well.
While the string is being lowered the rig
pumps can be engaged to fill the casing,
and if desired, to circulate and reciprocate.

As the joint reaches the floor the single joint elevators can be
extended to receive the next joint of casing.
Once at floor level the slips are
set and the casing string is
released by the CDS.
(A design feature of the tool
prevents release of the casing
with weight on the grapples).

Wireless Torque Turn System (WTTS)

Features and Functions
•Logs data for hydraulic or electric top drives.
•Monitors torque vs. time and torque vs. turns.
•Logs and displays connection number and casing depth.
•Uses an independent load cell to calibrate the top drive signals.
•Allows user to set min/max limits for torque, turns and shoulder values.
•Generates viewer files you can copy to CD or Print.

•Typical rig up: 45 minutes
•500 Ton API 8C capacity
•Torque capacity up to 40,000 ft, LBS.

For Use with

Increase torque limits up to 3 X
Provide a smooth surface within the casing
to allow tools to drift easily.
Increase thread life of coupling.
Rings are inserted into the couplings using
a simple hydraulic installation tool. MLT
rings stay firmly in place during
transportation, handling and use.

For wells with well bore
instability when they are drilled,
there is a very high probability
that the casing will be difficult to
run.
In such cases a reaming shoe
with a cutting structure can be
run on the casing to assist the
casing running system in rotating
and washing the casing down.
