 The University of Phoenix was one of the first
educational institution to offer students the
opportunity to earn a degree solely online.
When implementing the online platform The
University of Phoenix a huge ethical issues
that they had to address was Academic
Integrity.
 With the proliferation of online courses,
environments in which there is little to no
face-to-face interactions it is extremely
essential for educational institutions to
develop technologies that help to ensure that
the academic integrity nor the academic
validity be compromised (Morgan &
Hart,2013).
 Plagiarism: Intentionally or unintentionally
using sources without properly citing them or
using too much of certain sources and not
enough of ones voice.
 Purchasing work: Using cheat sites and other
places to buy assignments for submission.
 Unauthorized users: Allowing someone else
to log in as oneself, also allowing them to
complete assignments on ones behalf.
 APA Guidelines: Standards that are set forth
to provide specifics on how a paper should be
formatted, in addition they also outline how
to specifically cite the different sources.
 Plagiarism Checker: Is a tool that can be used
by both student and instructor to interrogate
papers for plagiarism against the Internet,
books and articles. In addition instructors
have the capacity to check against other
student paper that have been turned in.
 RiverPoint Writer: Software that has been
developed to assist student with being
compliant with APA guidelines, it formats
papers, assists with citations and the work
cited page.
 Academic Dishonesty Charge: When an
instructor feels that a student has
intentionally or unintentionally plagiarized.
 Once the charge has happened the student
has 10 days to provide a written explanation,
once received the response and the evidence
is reviewed. Students who fail to respond are
scholastically suspended indefinitely.
 During review it is decided if sanctions are
needed.
 Warning: No sanctions, student is warned of
the importance of academic integrity.
 Workshop: Is a workshop that focuses on
avoiding plagiarism, it is three days long.
 Essay: Students are required to write an essay
on the importance of academic integrity and
how they plan to ensure that they do not ever
get charged again
 Mastery Test: Is a tutorial and test that
students are required to take to show that
they have mastered how to avoid plagiarism.
 As technology continues to improve for
online instruction, the tools and resources
that are put in place to combat academic
dishonesty must continue to improve as well.
The University of Phoenix has done its part to
reduce, minimize or to eliminate the ethical
issue of academic integrity, by implementing
systems, tools and resources to aid in the
process.

  • 2.  The University of Phoenix was one of the first educational institution to offer students the opportunity to earn a degree solely online. When implementing the online platform The University of Phoenix a huge ethical issues that they had to address was Academic Integrity.
  • 3.  With the proliferation of online courses, environments in which there is little to no face-to-face interactions it is extremely essential for educational institutions to develop technologies that help to ensure that the academic integrity nor the academic validity be compromised (Morgan & Hart,2013).
  • 4.  Plagiarism: Intentionally or unintentionally using sources without properly citing them or using too much of certain sources and not enough of ones voice.  Purchasing work: Using cheat sites and other places to buy assignments for submission.  Unauthorized users: Allowing someone else to log in as oneself, also allowing them to complete assignments on ones behalf.
  • 5.  APA Guidelines: Standards that are set forth to provide specifics on how a paper should be formatted, in addition they also outline how to specifically cite the different sources.  Plagiarism Checker: Is a tool that can be used by both student and instructor to interrogate papers for plagiarism against the Internet, books and articles. In addition instructors have the capacity to check against other student paper that have been turned in.
  • 6.  RiverPoint Writer: Software that has been developed to assist student with being compliant with APA guidelines, it formats papers, assists with citations and the work cited page.
  • 7.  Academic Dishonesty Charge: When an instructor feels that a student has intentionally or unintentionally plagiarized.  Once the charge has happened the student has 10 days to provide a written explanation, once received the response and the evidence is reviewed. Students who fail to respond are scholastically suspended indefinitely.  During review it is decided if sanctions are needed.
  • 8.  Warning: No sanctions, student is warned of the importance of academic integrity.  Workshop: Is a workshop that focuses on avoiding plagiarism, it is three days long.  Essay: Students are required to write an essay on the importance of academic integrity and how they plan to ensure that they do not ever get charged again  Mastery Test: Is a tutorial and test that students are required to take to show that they have mastered how to avoid plagiarism.
  • 9.  As technology continues to improve for online instruction, the tools and resources that are put in place to combat academic dishonesty must continue to improve as well. The University of Phoenix has done its part to reduce, minimize or to eliminate the ethical issue of academic integrity, by implementing systems, tools and resources to aid in the process.
