- The Ferry Reserve was a slice of land north of Mormon Bridge between J.J. Pershing Dr. and the river where the Florence Ferry launched from. The ferry itself was a single wagon and single-car unit from the time it launched through the end of its usage in 1952. - James C. Mitchell (1810-1860) was the founder of the Winter Quarters Town Company and the Town of Florence. - James Monroe Parker (1824-1902) is one of the most important people in the history of Florence. His business and his farm are two of the most visible historical landmarks in Omaha today, even though only one is acknowledged for its importance. You Might Like… “Episode #60: The Life of James M. - Florence Mill, aka Weber Mill, Mormon Mill and Grist Mill, has timbers in it dating from 1846. Built along Mill Creek where McKinley Street was, it was moved to its present-day location. Over the years was used to mill grist, flour and grain. The grain elevator was added in 1915, and it was moved to its current location in 1939. It stored feed until 1989, when Linda Meigs bought it. The mill is a historic attraction for the community, hosting events and tours year around and serving an important role in the community. - The Florence Building is located at 8702 N. 30th St. Built in 1924, it was designed by popular Omaha architect Leo A. Daly. It was served by the Florence streetcar line for more than 50 years, until it was abandoned from Potter to Fillmore Street in 1941. You Might Like… “A History of the Florence Neighborhood”

- The Florence Water Works were established in 1880. The Minne Lusa Pumping Station opened in 1889. In 1912, the entire operation was taken over by the government and became part of the public utility called the Metropolitan Utility District, or MUD.
