Biocat organized the Barcelona Emergence Forum (April 10-11th, 2014, Congress Palace, Montjuïc) supported by the TRANSBIO SUDOE, a translational cooperation project dedicated to innovation in life sciences in South-West Europe. The Barcelona Emergence Forum contributed to bringing together Academics, Companies, Investment Entities, Technology Platforms and Technology Transfer Offices from Spain, France and Portugal to set up collaborative projects on Human Health & Agro-food Innovation.

1. PROVALUE: CAPITALIZATION OF THE
TECHNOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE ON FOOD
WASTE VALORIZATION SOLUTIONS

3. OBJECTIVES:
To enhance the use of the knowledge generated in the
previous project VALUE by dissemination among
industrial agents in the SUDOE.
To find « ad hoc » solutions to the representative
industrial cases
To create an Excellence Transnational Pole to improve
the competitivity and the sustainable development of
the food industry
4. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
To enhance the use of the knowledge generated in the
valorisation pilot studies and the technic-economic viability
To identify main valorisation solutions for vegetal, meat and
fish transformation industries.
To develop ad hoc solutions for food industries
To develop an Excellence Pole for food waste valorisation
To disseminate among food industries proposed solutions
5. GENERATED KNOWLEDGE:
Best Available Technologies
(BATs) guideline
Identification of the adequate
valorisation strategies for each
waste type

Pilot experiences for food and energetic valorisation:

Technical and economic feasibility study was done based on data obtained in pilot experiences with
industries.
8. GENERATED KNOWLEDGE (IV):
Pilot experiences for food and energetic valorisation:
a) Production of bioethanol from sugar rich wastes
b) Production of biogás from vegetal waste co-digestion
