A Short guide for Durham authors showing how to link their ORCID profile and Scopus Author ID. Includes links to additional support and guidance.

1. Updating your by linking to Scopus
Why?
• Quickly populate your ORCID profile with all publications
identified as yours in Scopus.
• Help remedy systemic name ambiguity problems in
Scopus author profiles.
• Increase visibility of your research: allow Scopus users to
quickly access all of your research output, including
works shown in your ORCID but not visible in Scopus itself.

with Scopus publication records.

Note: this can take up to a week before it appears.

6. To start, you should be
logged in to your ORCID
account.
Go to:
https://orcid.org/signin
… and login with your ORCID
ID or email address, and
your ORCID password.

7. If you don’t have an ORCID, you can
Register for an ORCID now.

9. Select Search & link under the
+Add works menu for Works
(publications) when logged in
to your ORCID profile.

10. Select Scopus – Elsevier from the list of
options offered.

11. Note: Scopus is just one of several third party sources
of publication data you can link your ORCID to, which
can help add outputs to your ORCID profile. These
follow a similar process in each case.
We would strongly recommend all authors link their
ORCID to Crossref as the registry of DOIs for millions of
scholarly publications.
For authors publishing data and other content through
DRO-Data, Figshare, Dryad or other data repositories,
we would also recommend linking to DataCite, as the
registration body for DOIs minted for many data
repositories and similar services.

12. Confirm you are happy with sharing data
between Scopus and ORCID and click on
Authorize access.

13. Review the possible profiles identified (click on show recent documents to view
publications linked to each profile in Scopus if more than one possible profile is
identified) and select those to link to your ORCID profile, and whose publications
you can then import to your ORCID from Scopus.

14. Indicate the preferred Profile name format to display.
These will usually be automatically derived from different name/initials
combinations, but may also include alternative names if your name has
changed and appears differently on past publications.

15. Review
which of
the
publications
linked to
that
SCOPUS
profile you
wish to add
to your
ORCID
profile.

16. You can check to see if Scopus has indexed any other of your
publications, but not linked these to your Scopus Author Profile
as well.
Please note, if a book or journal is not indexed in Scopus, you
cannot add this to your profile from Scopus.

17. Review the profile details before confirming.

18. Recommended: Confirm any changes made and allow the wizard to send those
changes back to your Scopus Author Profile to update it in Scopus.
Confirming this will result in your ORCID being displayed on your Scopus Author
Profile in Scopus, allowing users to find your publications and other information
not listed in Scopus if they are displayed in your ORCID profile.

19. Required: Enter your institutional email address
used with your ORCID account.

20. Required: Click on Send Author ID to link the Scopus Profile with your ORCID profile.
This will display your Scopus Author ID in your ORCID profile (although you can choose
to hide this from view by adjusting your visibility settings in your profile later.

21. Recommended: Click on Send my
publication list to send the identified
publications linked with your Scopus
Author Profile to your ORCID profile.

23. You should now be able to see the linked
Scopus Author Profile ID in your ORCID profile.

24. … and see the publications from Scopus listed
in your Scopus Author Profile.

25. You can change the privacy settings for any or all selected publications so that they do
or don’t display publicly on your ORCID profile. Recommendation: Ensure your works are
publicly visible so others can see your research and know it is yours.

27. If you have made any mistakes, you can
remove any publications from your profile by
selecting them and selecting Delete

28. … and confirming your action by indicating how many
records you are requesting are deleted.

29. If some of the publications from Scopus were already in your ORCID profile from another
source, you can also combine these and choose which is your preferred source.

30. You change the visibility of your Scopus Author ID, or delete the link
from your ORCID profile, by editing the Other IDs part of your profile.

31. … and selecting to Delete the external identifier, or changing the visibility
settings for each ID shown. Recommendation: Ensure your external identifiers
are publicly visible so others can see your profiles on those services easily

33. Access Scopus from http://ezphost.dur.ac.uk/login?url=https://www.scopus.com and logging in
with your CIS username and password.

34. Access Scopus from http://ezphost.dur.ac.uk/login?url=https://www.scopus.com and logging in
with your CIS username and password.
Then, select an Authors search to locate your Scopus Author Profile.

35. You can access the Scopus Author Profile by clicking on the author name in the
results screen.

36. Whilst we have shown how to do this from your ORCID account, you can
also go through the same process from within Scopus, once you have
identified your Scopus profile.

37. If you don’t have an ORCID, it will
prompt you to Register for an ORCID
now.
