Parts I & II — Formal Research Article Assignment Purpose: What to Keep in Mind By this
point in the course, you should have the following: • • • ???? Revised Literature Review
based on instructor comments and peer review feedback Documented primary research (or
at least the start of it) A clear understanding of your theoretical framework and how it
guides you during your primary research phase. You’ve made it! This is the part of the
semester where you get to make new, valuable meaning as well as shareable knowledge for
others in your area of specialization! Moving from literature review, to methods, to results,
to discussion is an extensive, iterative, and complex process. Mostly, it involves trial and
error to see what makes sense and what does not, based on your findings and the
surrounding conversation. This is where you’ll be asked to think creatively, critically, and
adaptively. The purpose of a research article is to… (1) place primary research within a
situated conversation in order to illuminate findings (2) disseminate knowledge to others
within—and even outside of—your specialized discipline. ? The research article is not
written like a story from start to finish, nor does each section have to be completed before
you can start working on another. It is essentially an artifact of extended thought on paper
(or a virtual screen). Therefore, you should get comfortable with the feeling of jumping from
one point to another as you work, while simultaneously attempting to create a cohesive unit
that builds knowledge as it progresses. ENC 1102 — Nohr — Fall 2019 Page 1 Major
Assignment 4 Parts I & II — Formal Research Article Part 1 Components • Revised
Literature Review (see my feedback from Assignment 3) • Methods: Your explanation of the
methods should be clear enough that I could do the same type of research myself with the
information you provide. Even though I am very familiar now with your research, imagine
that someone who has never heard of your research is reading. How would you explain
what you did for that person? • Results: This is the most important part of Major
Assignment 4 Part I, because you will finish collecting all your data, organize it, code it, and
analyze it before you can write about it. We will have time in class to workshop on coding
and analyzing results, but this is the MOST crucial step of the whole process—in my opinion
at least. After the annotated bibliography, we will spend the most time in the whole course
on the Results section. Part 2 Components • Revised Literature Review • Students
Adjustments To US Universities Literature ReviewRevised Methods (see my feedback from
Part I) • Revised Results (see my feedback from Part I) • Conclusion Your conclusion should
directly answer the research question that you started with. It’s okay if you couldn’t answer
it perfectly or entirely; that’s what future research is for. What do you understand from the
results? Do other people see the same meaning in the results? This is an important area for
peer review and instructor feedback to gauge your audience’s response and understanding.
ENC 1102 — Nohr — Fall 2019 Page 2 Major Assignment 4 Parts I & II — Formal Research
Article First, remember that you can always resubmit your assignments after revising them
for a higher grade. In fact, this assignment requires a first submission (Part I) and a re-
submission (Part II). An “A” submission does the following: Part 1 • Includes the revised
literature review (from Major Assignment 3) • Methods are clearly described in such a way
that the reader could reproduce the study in a similar way without having to contact the
original author/researcher (that’s you!). • Data (results) from primary research are
represented in an easily understandable and format with either charts, graphs, or tables. •
Follows proper APA or MLA citation. • Demonstrates an iterative revision and attention to
audience expectations throughout the drafting process. Part 2 • Contains some form of a
literature review, methods, results, and discussion sections within 10-12 pages. •
Incorporates feedback from Part I for the Methods and Results sections. • Includes a
thoughtful discussion section in which you create new knowledge based on the collected
primary research and its interpretation considering secondary research from the literature
review. • Follows proper APA or MLA citation. • Demonstrates an iterative revision and
attention to audience expectations throughout the drafting process. ENC 1102 — Nohr —
Fall 2019 Page 3 Major Assignment 4 Parts I & II — Formal Research Article Assignment
Tips and Tricks: How to Save Time & Frustration • Part 1 of this Major Assignment is meant
to be messy. It’s okay to misinterpret data or to have a hard time finding meaning. That is
part of the process, and I will continue to help in guiding you through that. • If you shut
down during this process without letting me know (think ahead about the stress that finals
can bring), then I will have a harder time redirecting you to better data. I know it’s hard, but
try to plan ahead! You will thank yourself in the end. DO NOT struggle with bad or confusing
data alone. Please come to me and we will work it out together. • Part 2 is where you begin
polishing everything, making sure that your conclusions make sense, that they address your
original research question, and that all your major sections have a clear connection with
each other. Sometimes these pieces can be forgotten during the whole process, so this is an
important time to double check those issues. • While you’re writing, use other research
articles as a guideline for what to do and what not to do. What moves or features do you like
from other articles in writing studies that you’ve read so far? These are choices you get to
make as an author and researcher. Remember that the research article as a genre is
dependent upon your specific focus, so tailor your research article to the intended
audience’s expectations (readers of writing studies). • Keep in your mind the importance of
revision and being open to changing interpretations as you work through your analysis of
the data and surrounding conversation in the academic sources you have. • As always,
please visit me during office hours or talk with me after class if you’re feeling stuck during
this process. ENC 1102 — Nohr — Fall 2019 Page 4 Topic 2: Arab International student’s
adjustments to US universities Rabia, A., & Hazza, M. (2017). Undergraduate Arab
International Students’ Adjustment to US Universities. International Journal of Higher
Education, 6(1), 131-139. Students Adjustments To US Universities Literature ReviewThe
article examines the adjustment process of 16 Arab international students. According to the
authors, the interviews carried it was revealed that the students experience various
challenges as they get assimilated into the US universities. The past decade has seen an
increase in the number of international students enrolling in US institutions. According to
the article, the majority of the students come from developed nations which are
predominately in Arab nations. While the Middle East has seen a rise in the number of
institutions many of them lack adequate teaching staff forcing the students to prefer
institutions in the US. Arab students just like most international students experience culture
shock from the traditions, values, new American architecture, and institutions. This often
leads to isolation and anxiety. The adjustment experiences make them nostalgic for their
families back home as they lack proper systems that allow them to successfully adapt to the
new environments. The research suggests that specified outreach programs could be
developed to help US institutions secure a student adjustment process that is inclusive of all
academic and social environments. The findings can be used by educationalists to provide
effective policies that are inclusive of all international students in US universities.
McDermott-Levy, R. (2011). Going alone: The lived experience of female Arab-Muslim
nursing students living and studying in the United States. Nursing Outlook, 59(5), 266-277.
According to the author, there has been an increase in student enrolment across the US.
Most of the students are from across the borders of the US. The Middle East alone saw an
18% increase in student enrolment in 2009. The study was carried on a group of 12 Omani
nurses. They were able to respond to question related to their experiences while studying in
the US. They noted that unlike US nursing students most Arab women prefer sharing their
personal information with close friends and their families. They also stated that they find it
hard building on trust with strangers. This culture is new to the American student. There
are potential cultural barriers for international students who seek out to be socially
desirable. The research states that studying in the US allowed nursing students to
experience a culture that was different from what they were used to. They were able to
assimilate their own beliefs to those of new cultures. Being women in an all-inclusive
society allowed them to take part in managing life aspects that were only done by men e.g.
managing finances. They acknowledged that their attire such as the hijab made it easy for
people to point out their cultural difference. Lee, J. J., & Rice, C. (2007). Welcome to
America? International student perceptions of discrimination. Higher education, 53(3), 381-
409. The authors explore the experiences of 24 students across 15 countries who were in
the US. Through the interviews, the authors were able to establish the challenges they
experience as they try to blend in with American society. Many of the students complained
that they experienced cultural intolerance and discrimination. In the post-9/11 era and the
escalation of the War on Terror, the dynamics of refugees have changed tremendously.
Since then there has been a rise in the number of withdrawals by Middle East students with
the fear of reprisal. Many Middle East student was from the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Gulf
Region. Social and community factors have largely imparted the enrollment of international
students in US universities. Many of Islam faith fear Islam phobia from the locals. The
women who wear hijab and find it hard to be integrated into campus life. Language and
cultural factors have also affected the lives of Latinas. The study was largely to create an
abroad perspective of the lives of international students during their social interactions.
Tolerance should be enhanced in all academic institutions for all cultures to be assimilated.
Ghazizadeh, S. (2019). Consideration for Treatment of Domestic Violence with Middle
Eastern (Iranian) Cultures (Doctoral dissertation, Alliant International University). Parents
play a huge role in a child’s life. However, the author reports various toxic traits exhibited
by parents that affect the lives of their children. The article is explicit that many of the
Middle East cultures undermine the role of the woman in the household. Many Middle East
women are victims of domestic violence. Students Adjustments To US Universities
Literature ReviewThey cannot face their husbands since their cultural values do not allow
them to stand up for themselves around men. The children grow up knowing little towards
the appreciation of the woman’s role in society. The boys tend to feel that they are more
valued than the girl child. The article established to bring to the realization that the Middle
Eastern culture has contributed to the issues of the generation currently being fought
against. It is good for the various organization to consider the impact that such regressive
cultures have on the lives of the children and future generations. Robinson, L., Gardee, R.,
Chaudhry, F., & Collins, H. (2017). Muslim youth in Britain: Acculturation, radicalization, and
implications for social work practice/training. Journal of Religion & Spirituality in Social
Work: Social Thought, 36(1-2), 266-289. The youth are the largest group affected by
discrimination. According to the authors, Muslim youth faces discrimination in many
western societies. Due to the high tension of terror groups, the Muslim youth is often
secluded when it comes to their rights. They feel out of place when they are out of their
countries. The authors gather that most stems from the issues of radicalization and
acculturation. The locals tend to identify them with the stereotypes that the community is
affiliated with. The Muslim youth just like many of their counterparts are heavily affected by
stereotypes. They are left to maneuver the world without knowing what they are bound to
face during employment and social interactions. These discriminatory practices often leave
them as victims. The article advocates for a more inclusive society that sees the youth more
than their race. …Students Adjustments To US Universities Literature Review

Students Adjustments To US Universities Literature Review Students Adjustments To US Universities Literature Review ON Students Adjustments To US Universities Literature Review1) Follow the rubric2) I have uploaded my previous major assignment 3 can u please write regard to topic and so you can follow up my research topic.Students Adjustments To US Universities Literature Reviewattachment_1attachment_2Unformatted Attachment PreviewMajor Assignment 4 Parts I & II — Formal Research Article Assignment Purpose: What to Keep in Mind By this point in the course, you should have the following: • • • ???? Revised Literature Review based on instructor comments and peer review feedback Documented primary research (or at least the start of it) A clear understanding of your theoretical framework and how it guides you during your primary research phase. You’ve made it! This is the part of the semester where you get to make new, valuable meaning as well as shareable knowledge for others in your area of specialization! Moving from literature review, to methods, to results, to discussion is an extensive, iterative, and complex process. Mostly, it involves trial and error to see what makes sense and what does not, based on your findings and the surrounding conversation. This is where you’ll be asked to think creatively, critically, and adaptively. The purpose of a research article is to… (1) place primary research within a situated conversation in order to illuminate findings (2) disseminate knowledge to others within—and even outside of—your specialized discipline. ? The research article is not written like a story from start to finish, nor does each section have to be completed before you can start working on another. It is essentially an artifact of extended thought on paper (or a virtual screen). Therefore, you should get comfortable with the feeling of jumping from one point to another as you work, while simultaneously attempting to create a cohesive unit that builds knowledge as it progresses. ENC 1102 — Nohr — Fall 2019 Page 1 Major Assignment 4 Parts I & II — Formal Research Article Part 1 Components • Revised Literature Review (see my feedback from Assignment 3) • Methods: Your explanation of the methods should be clear enough that I could do the same type of research myself with the information you provide. Even though I am very familiar now with your research, imagine that someone who has never heard of your research is reading. How would you explain what you did for that person? • Results: This is the most important part of Major Assignment 4 Part I, because you will finish collecting all your data, organize it, code it, and analyze it before you can write about it. We will have time in class to workshop on coding and analyzing results, but this is the MOST crucial step of the whole process—in my opinion at least. After the annotated bibliography, we will spend the most time in the whole course
  • 2. on the Results section. Part 2 Components • Revised Literature Review • Students Adjustments To US Universities Literature ReviewRevised Methods (see my feedback from Part I) • Revised Results (see my feedback from Part I) • Conclusion Your conclusion should directly answer the research question that you started with. It’s okay if you couldn’t answer it perfectly or entirely; that’s what future research is for. What do you understand from the results? Do other people see the same meaning in the results? This is an important area for peer review and instructor feedback to gauge your audience’s response and understanding. ENC 1102 — Nohr — Fall 2019 Page 2 Major Assignment 4 Parts I & II — Formal Research Article First, remember that you can always resubmit your assignments after revising them for a higher grade. In fact, this assignment requires a first submission (Part I) and a re- submission (Part II). An “A” submission does the following: Part 1 • Includes the revised literature review (from Major Assignment 3) • Methods are clearly described in such a way that the reader could reproduce the study in a similar way without having to contact the original author/researcher (that’s you!). • Data (results) from primary research are represented in an easily understandable and format with either charts, graphs, or tables. • Follows proper APA or MLA citation. • Demonstrates an iterative revision and attention to audience expectations throughout the drafting process. Part 2 • Contains some form of a literature review, methods, results, and discussion sections within 10-12 pages. • Incorporates feedback from Part I for the Methods and Results sections. • Includes a thoughtful discussion section in which you create new knowledge based on the collected primary research and its interpretation considering secondary research from the literature review. • Follows proper APA or MLA citation. • Demonstrates an iterative revision and attention to audience expectations throughout the drafting process. ENC 1102 — Nohr — Fall 2019 Page 3 Major Assignment 4 Parts I & II — Formal Research Article Assignment Tips and Tricks: How to Save Time & Frustration • Part 1 of this Major Assignment is meant to be messy. It’s okay to misinterpret data or to have a hard time finding meaning. That is part of the process, and I will continue to help in guiding you through that. • If you shut down during this process without letting me know (think ahead about the stress that finals can bring), then I will have a harder time redirecting you to better data. I know it’s hard, but try to plan ahead! You will thank yourself in the end. DO NOT struggle with bad or confusing data alone. Please come to me and we will work it out together. • Part 2 is where you begin polishing everything, making sure that your conclusions make sense, that they address your original research question, and that all your major sections have a clear connection with each other. Sometimes these pieces can be forgotten during the whole process, so this is an important time to double check those issues. • While you’re writing, use other research articles as a guideline for what to do and what not to do. What moves or features do you like from other articles in writing studies that you’ve read so far? These are choices you get to make as an author and researcher. Remember that the research article as a genre is dependent upon your specific focus, so tailor your research article to the intended audience’s expectations (readers of writing studies). • Keep in your mind the importance of revision and being open to changing interpretations as you work through your analysis of the data and surrounding conversation in the academic sources you have. • As always, please visit me during office hours or talk with me after class if you’re feeling stuck during
  • 3. this process. ENC 1102 — Nohr — Fall 2019 Page 4 Topic 2: Arab International student’s adjustments to US universities Rabia, A., & Hazza, M. (2017). Undergraduate Arab International Students’ Adjustment to US Universities. International Journal of Higher Education, 6(1), 131-139. Students Adjustments To US Universities Literature ReviewThe article examines the adjustment process of 16 Arab international students. According to the authors, the interviews carried it was revealed that the students experience various challenges as they get assimilated into the US universities. The past decade has seen an increase in the number of international students enrolling in US institutions. According to the article, the majority of the students come from developed nations which are predominately in Arab nations. While the Middle East has seen a rise in the number of institutions many of them lack adequate teaching staff forcing the students to prefer institutions in the US. Arab students just like most international students experience culture shock from the traditions, values, new American architecture, and institutions. This often leads to isolation and anxiety. The adjustment experiences make them nostalgic for their families back home as they lack proper systems that allow them to successfully adapt to the new environments. The research suggests that specified outreach programs could be developed to help US institutions secure a student adjustment process that is inclusive of all academic and social environments. The findings can be used by educationalists to provide effective policies that are inclusive of all international students in US universities. McDermott-Levy, R. (2011). Going alone: The lived experience of female Arab-Muslim nursing students living and studying in the United States. Nursing Outlook, 59(5), 266-277. According to the author, there has been an increase in student enrolment across the US. Most of the students are from across the borders of the US. The Middle East alone saw an 18% increase in student enrolment in 2009. The study was carried on a group of 12 Omani nurses. They were able to respond to question related to their experiences while studying in the US. They noted that unlike US nursing students most Arab women prefer sharing their personal information with close friends and their families. They also stated that they find it hard building on trust with strangers. This culture is new to the American student. There are potential cultural barriers for international students who seek out to be socially desirable. The research states that studying in the US allowed nursing students to experience a culture that was different from what they were used to. They were able to assimilate their own beliefs to those of new cultures. Being women in an all-inclusive society allowed them to take part in managing life aspects that were only done by men e.g. managing finances. They acknowledged that their attire such as the hijab made it easy for people to point out their cultural difference. Lee, J. J., & Rice, C. (2007). Welcome to America? International student perceptions of discrimination. Higher education, 53(3), 381- 409. The authors explore the experiences of 24 students across 15 countries who were in the US. Through the interviews, the authors were able to establish the challenges they experience as they try to blend in with American society. Many of the students complained that they experienced cultural intolerance and discrimination. In the post-9/11 era and the escalation of the War on Terror, the dynamics of refugees have changed tremendously. Since then there has been a rise in the number of withdrawals by Middle East students with the fear of reprisal. Many Middle East student was from the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Gulf
  • 4. Region. Social and community factors have largely imparted the enrollment of international students in US universities. Many of Islam faith fear Islam phobia from the locals. The women who wear hijab and find it hard to be integrated into campus life. Language and cultural factors have also affected the lives of Latinas. The study was largely to create an abroad perspective of the lives of international students during their social interactions. Tolerance should be enhanced in all academic institutions for all cultures to be assimilated. Ghazizadeh, S. (2019). Consideration for Treatment of Domestic Violence with Middle Eastern (Iranian) Cultures (Doctoral dissertation, Alliant International University). Parents play a huge role in a child’s life. However, the author reports various toxic traits exhibited by parents that affect the lives of their children. The article is explicit that many of the Middle East cultures undermine the role of the woman in the household. Many Middle East women are victims of domestic violence. Students Adjustments To US Universities Literature ReviewThey cannot face their husbands since their cultural values do not allow them to stand up for themselves around men. The children grow up knowing little towards the appreciation of the woman’s role in society. The boys tend to feel that they are more valued than the girl child. The article established to bring to the realization that the Middle Eastern culture has contributed to the issues of the generation currently being fought against. It is good for the various organization to consider the impact that such regressive cultures have on the lives of the children and future generations. Robinson, L., Gardee, R., Chaudhry, F., & Collins, H. (2017). Muslim youth in Britain: Acculturation, radicalization, and implications for social work practice/training. Journal of Religion & Spirituality in Social Work: Social Thought, 36(1-2), 266-289. The youth are the largest group affected by discrimination. According to the authors, Muslim youth faces discrimination in many western societies. Due to the high tension of terror groups, the Muslim youth is often secluded when it comes to their rights. They feel out of place when they are out of their countries. The authors gather that most stems from the issues of radicalization and acculturation. The locals tend to identify them with the stereotypes that the community is affiliated with. The Muslim youth just like many of their counterparts are heavily affected by stereotypes. They are left to maneuver the world without knowing what they are bound to face during employment and social interactions. These discriminatory practices often leave them as victims. The article advocates for a more inclusive society that sees the youth more than their race. …Students Adjustments To US Universities Literature Review
