  1. Turn off phones, close facebook and emails and get a pen and paper ready. Ask Questions, share your website for some testing if your comfortable, enjoy it. Don’t get confused on some of the technology…..Also please check the ego’s at the door…..
  2. What is the end game for your business ? Where do you see it right at the end.
  3. If your business can talk, and was able to give you a performance review on yourself what would it say ? Are you controlling, not giving it room to grow, not feeding it enough, too much nurturing, not enough nurturing, not enough attention to detail, too much attention to detail, too much procrastination, not enough strategy time, not focused in the correct areas, too much blame, complete denial, not easy to work with, too friendly…..Would it fire you, would It praise you…..
  4. From Early Age we were also performance managed. School Report cards, sports awards, martial arts training……So many things….Then we get employed and guess what performance manage, then all of a sudden we are a business owner. Woohooo Freedom, no more performance management…..
  5. So now your in business and there is so much to learn, so much to do, who had time to evaluate yourself.
  6. Why do a performance review on your team. So much easier to judge them rather then ourselves. Easier to see flaws in others……
  7. Too critical of yourself, beat yourself up too much…Or not critical enough, allow you get away with heaps of stuff…..
  8. Reverse Performance Review. How are you as a leader, questions you should be asking: What does the company do well, what does the company not do well, if you were granted CEO status what is some of the things you would change, what does your leader do good at, what does your leader not do so great at. How do you like to rewarded, are you clear on the companies goals and aims. So many great things come out of this all the time. Some great ideas.
  9. Do you have one, is it clear, do you follow it……This is the challenge we have…….We want are team to do specific tasks but we as business owner go and will just do anything. How do you think your business feels about this……Clearly define your job role and anything that is not worth doing then don’t do it……

  11. So what elements should a business owner be reviewing ?
  12. Has the past year been good/bad/satisfactory or otherwise for the business, and why? What has been the Owner / GM most important achievements of the past year? Where has the Owner / GM has let the business down in the past year and why?
  13. Describe the Owner / GM attitude towards the business? Describe the attitude/s that you believe the Owner / GM needs for the business. Do you think the Business Owner is Passionate About the Business? What does the Owner / GM need to do to increase their passion for the business? Does the owner / GM beat themselves up too much over trivial matters, and if so what are those matters and how can they over come these in the future?
  14. Rate your time management ability! How could the business owner be more productive or improve their time management?
  15. Does the Business Owner Follow a Plan? Has the Business Owner Communicated that plan to the team? Is there any part of planning that the Business Owner Needs to improve in? Is the Business Owner Strangling the business? Do they follow a Job Role….. Does the Owner / GM go outside of this job description regularly and create additional unnecessary work for themselves? If so what is that work.
  16. How would you rate the Owner / GM ability to market the business ? 1 = Poor, 10 = Exceptional What do you believe needs to be done to increase this marketing rating? What should be the continual or next marketing activities implemented for the business that the Owner / GM needs to put in place? What is going to stop the Owner / GM from implementing these marketing strategies?
  17. How would you rate the Owner / GM ability to make sales in the Business? 1 = Poor, 10 = Exceptional What do you believe needs to be done to increase this sales rating? What other sales strategies could be implemented by the Owner / GM to improve the sales conversion and future sales? What is going to stop the Owner / GM from implementing these sales strategies?
  18. How is Customer Service level of the Owner / GM implemented in the business rated? Can the business improve that customer service level and if so, what does the Owner / GM need to do to increase it? Has the Owner / GM got the operations working smoothly with very little hiccups? If not what needs to happen in the business to make this happen? What would be the ideal Operational / Customer Service Experience the Owner/ GM could put in place in the business? Would that experience be feasible in the business, think about costs, returns, ability, staffing levels to implement etc?
  19. Is the Owner / GM fully aware of the cash position of the business? What needs to happen to have the owner / GM to be managing the cash better? What KPI’s does the Owner / GM need to put into place to be more decisive on the business and understand it’s performance drivers? What does the Owner / GM need to do to help manage paperwork better?
  20. What importance has the owner / GM put on the systems and having them working autonomously in the business? What are the major system/s that the Owner / GM needs to be implemented in the business over the next 3 to 6 months.. Why is it important to have these implemented in the business? What is going to stop the Owner / GM from implementing these systems?
  21. Business is made up of different elements for the business owners and the interactions required.
  22. Understand the Cycle of Business – Every time a decision or issue comes in, then
  23. What is the Owners / GM best leadership qualities? What qualities of leadership does the Owner / GM need to improve on? Does the owner / GM have challenges with team accountability, discipline and follow through? If so what also needs to happen to improve these skills? Has the Owner / GM clearly articulated the goals. Budgets, KPI’s, Culture, Job descriptions and other important areas of the business to the team? If not needs to happen to make this happen. If there were 3 things that the Owner / GM need to work on with the team, what would they be? What is going to stop the Owner / GM from implementing these team strategies?
  24. When can you do this……Why is it important. Reflection is such a powerful thing…..How often should you do with this. What should you do with this. Build a plan from it…..Be clear….
