3. 1 Corinthians 1:2
To the church of God that is in
Corinth, to those sanctified in
Christ Jesus, called to be saints
together with all those who in
every place call upon the name
of our Lord Jesus Christ, both
their Lord and ours:
4. 1 Corinthians 6:11
But you were washed, you were
sanctified, you were justified in
the name of the Lord Jesus
Christ and by the Spirit of our
God.
5. “Progressive” Sanctification
We are increasingly “set apart” as we
progress in actual holiness. (Being
made holy).
Christian growth or maturity (Eph 4:11-
13).
Being conformed to the image of Jesus
(Rom 8:29).
6. Hebrews 10:10-14
10 …we have been sanctified through the
offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for
all. 11 And every priest stands daily at his
service, offering repeatedly the same
sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 But when Christ had offered for all time a
single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the
right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time
until his enemies should be made a footstool
for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he
has perfected for all time those who are
7. John 17:14-19
14 I have given them your word, and the
world has hated them because they are not
of the world, just as I am not of the world.
15 I do not ask that you take them out of
the world, but that you keep them from the
evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just
as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them
in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you
sent me into the world, so I have sent them
into the world. 19 And for their sake I
consecrate myself, that they also may be
sanctified in truth.
9. John 17:19
And for their sake I consecrate
myself, that they also may be
sanctified in truth.
10. Passive and Active Sanctification
If we neglect active striving to obey
God, we become passive, lazy
Christians.
If we neglect the passive role of
trusting God and yielding to Him, we
become proud and overly confident in
ourselves.
In either case, our sanctification will be
greatly deficient.
11. Philippians 2:12-13
… work out your own salvation with
fear and trembling, for it is God who
works in you, both to will and to
work for his good pleasure.
13. Sanctified by the Truth/Word
1) Open the Word
2) Receive the Truth
3) Respond in Faith
14. The sending and the sanctifying are
inseparable.
When we look at the life of Christ we
see that his separateness was not an
outward separation from the world,
but an inward separation from its (the
world’s) spirit.
Jesus is sending us into the world
and so that is why the process of
sanctification is so important.
15. We need to live where we live!
Sanctified by the truth of God’s Word
Open the Word
Receive the Truth
Respond in Faith
