Exceptions: The title
page, abstract, first page of the
dedication, acknowledgements(s)
and preface (if any), first page of
the table of contents, and the first
page of each chapter (including the
introduction, if any) begin 2″ from
the top of the page.

4. MARGINS
Top, bottom, and both side margins must be at least an
inch wide (1") to allow for binding and trimming. All
information (text headings, notes, and
illustrations), excluding page numbers, must be within
the text area. Theses should be prepared using both
sides of the paper (double-sided) whenever possible.
Oversize sheets must be folded to come within the text
area so the folds will not be trimmed off or bound in
during the binding procedure.

5. MARGINS
All copies of a thesis/dissertation must have the
following uniform margins throughout the entire
document:
Left: 1 1/4″ (to ensure sufficient room for binding the
work)
Right: 1″ or 1 1/4″ for front and back reproduction
Bottom: 1″ (with allowances for page numbers, see section
on Pagination)

6. SPACING
The text of the thesis may be single- doubleor one-and-a-half-spaced. The
abstract, biography, notes, bibliography, and
acknowledgment should be single-spaced.
If you are writing your thesis on
Athena, follow the formatting and typeface
instructions under the LATEX or FRAME olc
stock answer topics by typing the command
"olc_answers" on any Athena workstation.

7. INDENTS
New paragraphs should be
indicated by a consistent tab
indentation.
For blocked quotations, indent the
entire body consistently from the
left margin

8. The text alignment is an important step in maintaining good readability
also. Alignment options in a traditional layout of a page are: Align left, align
right, center, justify and asymmetric alignments.
This Justified text is aligned right and left. It can be very legible, if the designer balances evenly
space between letters and words, avoiding annoying gaps called rivers that will not break the
course text.
Lineups asymmetric used when the designer wants to break the text into logical units
of thought, or to give more expresivaidad to page.
Right alignment is in the opposite direction of the reader because it is difficult to find
a new line.
