  4. Programme managed by Families Unit within the Dept. Headed up by SRO Julia Gault and managed by programme manager Owen McConnell. Delivered by a number of providers Recognition that there have been extensive new developments in communications Programme worth up to £44m from 2008 – end of CSR period (2010 / 11) Key departmental priority
  5. 5 ‘workstrands’ to the programme. Each delivering the aim of improving access to parenting information.
  6. Initial period to June 2009 is for providers to test/demonstrate the use of new channels with parents Independent evaluation will provide information about parents views of the services and help inform decision in March 2009 about whether to extend contracts You will hear more about the services in the second part of the presentation
  7. Research conducted by the Dept in 2006 with Parents indicated that there was a sizable minority of Parents who just wanted parenting information in printed form. To meet this need, the Department conducted an options appraisal. Concluded that the market for magazines both aimed at parents and those read by parents was well served already, so rather than create another publication, a syndicated content approach was most appropriate.
  8. Launch date of September 2009. Working very closely with local authorities, Ofsted, DirectGov and IT areas within the Dept to deliver this project. Meeting information duty as specified in the s12 of The Childcare Act Will ensure parents have, at their fingertips, the most comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date range of information about childcare and other local and national services and support that has ever been available.
