10. Why DEI?
I am a Federal Grant Reviewer and Foundation Peer Reviewer
for several entities. I review 5-40 grant applications per cycle.
11. Why DEI?
Over the past two years, with an increased focus on DEI
importance and initiatives, the criteria has changed for grant
reviewers.
12. Why DEI?
As a grant reviewer, we typically look at the budget and
narrative first, and that is still happening.
However, funding sources are now instructing grant reviewers
to look at diversity within the applicant organization.
There are three specific areas of concentration.

25. The Candidates
Volunteer Vicki
Volunteers care about your DEI initiatives because it's essential for them to feel like
they are part of what the organization stands for. There's an old phrase that says
volunteers make the best donors, and it's true - they are your champions and want to
see you succeed.

26. The Candidates
Donor Dave
Your donors and prospects may have questions about your DEI initiatives. They may inquire
about the diversity on your board, diversity in your programs, and the inclusivity and
accessibility that your clients have with your programs. These are all potential questions
that donors may present to you.

27. The Candidates
Employee Emily
Your employees may be interested in seeing a DEI statement from the organization they work for.
By putting your DEI statement on your website or sharing it in your marketing materials, you are
conveying your stance on inclusivity, equity, and diversity to your donors, funders, volunteers, and
employees.
