This document proposes an open source project called OSITH (Open Source in the Hood) to promote open source development in underprivileged inner city areas. The project aims to provide training, tools, software, and hardware in open source areas like programming, operating systems, and networking. The goal is to build communities of open source developers in inner cities that can create projects, startups, and software companies. The problem is the US has a shortage of IT professionals due to offshoring, and opportunities for youth in inner cities are lacking. The project will start by compiling existing open source training materials, creating a nonprofit organization, and getting donations and funding to eventually set up world-class training facilities in inner cities.
