There are tiny openings, called
stomata, on the bottom of their
leaves that help carbon dioxide
and oxygen to enter and exit the
plant, kind of like our nose.
Plants breathe in the carbon dioxide
and breathe out the oxygen.
Humans do the opposite. We breathe in
oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide.

8. Water
Plants also drink!
This is why you need to water plants or they
will die. They use their roots to suck water up
into their bodies.

10. Leaves are made up of a bunch of tiny cells.
Chlorophyll is the material that gives plants their
green color. With the help of chlorophyll, plants take
in energy from the sun and use it to produce sugar.

11. Plants make their own food through
photosynthesis. This food (glucose) is
often converted into other forms,
such as starch and cellulose in order to
repair and build more cells- thus
making the plant grow.

12. The sugar is then used by the plants for food, and
the oxygen is breathed out into the atmosphere.
This process as a whole is "photosynthesis."
