226 Annual Squadron Dinner Admin Order



Roles

    •   President of the Mess Committee (PMC) – Flt Lt Forrestal*
    •   Mr Vice – CI B Hepburn*
    •   Guest of Honour (VIP) – Mr R Pycroft*
    •   Colour Guard – Sgt J Cook*
    •   Chaplain – Mr G Butterworth*

*Please pay particular attention to the Running Order as your jobs will be outlined here; please ask if there is
anything required of you that you don’t quite understand.

Order of Dress

For Cadets and Military personnel, the dress code is No 5 Mess Dress or Interim Dress; female Cadets are to
wear evening dresses. No head dress is to be worn.
(Cadets to be briefed at a later date)

For Civilians the dress code is formal, gentlemen are expected to wear a suit and tie while ladies are to wear an
evening dress if possible.

Order of Service

1900- Members and Guests arrive (Welcome drinks and mingling in the Foyer)

1920- Announcement by Mr. Vice (Members are to take their places behind their chairs, Guests are last to enter
the room)

1925- The President calls the mess to order (One rap of the Gavel)
    - The President then orders the posting of the colours (Colour Guard posts the Colours as briefed)

1930- Invocation by the Chaplain

1935- The President announces ‘Take your Seats!’ (Members and Guests do as instructed)
    - Welcoming remarks by The President

1940- The President seats the mess and dinner is served

2100- Restaurant staff ensure all plates are cleared

2105- Queens toast by Mr.Vice (upon toasting, the Members to stand and reply ‘The Queen’)
    - Another two toasts are to be made to The President and the Corps (In same format as earlier)
2110- The President introduces the distinguished speaker

2110- The VIP makes a speech

2120- After conclusion of the speech, Mr Vice proposes a toast to the distinguished speaker (everyone to rise
and respond ‘Hear! Hear!’ All to remain standing.)

2120- The President calls for the retiring of the colours (Colour Guard retires the colour)
    - The President then gives the closing remarks
    - The President adjourns the audience with two raps of the gavel (All are to be seated)

2125- After-Dinner Entertainment commences as briefed (awards followed by a party)
Violations of the Mess



I-1. Untimely arrival at proceedings.

I-2. Smoking at the table before the lighting of the smoking lamp.

I-3. Haggling over date of rank.

I-4. Inverted cummerbund .

I-5. Loud and obtrusive remarks in a foreign language.

I-6. Improper toasting procedure.

I-7. Leaving the dining room without permission from the President of the Mess.

I-8. Carrying cocktails into the dining area before the conclusion of dinner.

I-9. Foul language.

I-10. Toasting with an uncharged glass.

I-11. Wearing a clip-on bow tie at an obvious list.

I-12. Rising to applaud particularly witty, succinct, sarcastic, or relevant toasts, unless following the
example of the President.

I-13. Haggling over penalties or fines imposed.
