9. THE SCHOOL WORK DAY
All employees of the Person County Schools have accepted their
position to be their primary employment position and other activities,
outside jobs, or obligations may not take precedent over the duties
assigned by the school system.
ACCIDENTS
All staff members employed by the Person County Schools are insured
under the Workmen’s Compensation Act. The law requires that any
accident in the line of duty be reported immediately by the employee to
the principal/director. The principal/director must complete the
appropriate form and submit it immediately to the Central Office. The
employee, unless too severely hurt to complete the form prior to
medical attention, should complete the Employee Accident Report.
Both forms are online. It is the principal/director’s responsibility to see
that these reports are made. If the employee needs medical assistance,
he/she should contact Beth Hayes prior to seeking medical attention.
Currently, Person County has a medical agreement with Roxboro
MedAccess. He/she must let the physician know that the injury is a
Workmen’s Compensation Claim.
10. EMPLOYEE DRESS AND APPEARANCE
The acceptable dress code for staff can be found in Policy
Code: 7340 and is also included in the PCS Employee
Handbook.
EARLY RELEASE DAY STAFF SCHEDULING
Person County Schools procedures required the charging of
a full day for an absence on early release days. Early release
days are not half-days. If a sub is required for a teacher on
these days, the substitute must be paid for the full day. This
is true regardless of whether the early release is for
professional development or testing. On these days,
teacher assistants must return to work after driving their
bus, take annual leave or receive reduced salary on early
release days. The finance office communicates this item
clearly with all classified employees prior to the first early
release day of the year.
11. STUDENT-STAFF RELATIONSHIPS
PCSB POLICY 4040/7310- The relationship between staff and students
should be one of cooperation, understanding and mutual respect. The
staff has the responsibility to provide an atmosphere conducive to
learning and to motivate each student to perform to his or her capacity.
The staff is expected to model behavior expected of students in staff-
student relationships.
-All employees, except student employees, are prohibited from dating,
courting or entering into a romantic or sexual relationship with any
student enrolled in the school district regardless of the student’s age or
whether the relationship is consensual. Employees engaging or
attempting to engage in such inappropriate conduct will be subject to
disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal, and may be subject to
criminal action as provided in G.S. 14-202.4 and 14-27.7.
-Any employee who has reason to believe that another employee is
inappropriately involved with a student, as described above, is required
to report this information to the superintendent. An employee who fails
to inform the superintendent of a suspected inappropriate relationship
between an employee and a student may be subject to disciplinary
action, up to and including dismissal.
