Presearch Search Term Mapping Steps Fall 2015 9th Honors English
1. Search Term Mapping Fall 2015
Keep a running list of search terms and phrases you are trying as you
search databases, websites, and/or video portals (YouTube, Vimeo)
For each source, jot down and map the key words/concepts/phrases
you are finding as you skim and scan articles from that database,
website, or video portal. DO NOT TAKE NOTES.
This process helps us to be more mindful of building the language or
vocabulary of our topic and to possibly refine/narrow/focus our topic.
The mapping process helps us to get more robust results and to “mine”
our topic more thoughtfully as we search.
The mapping process allows to jot down key ideas/concepts that can
not only help our search process but can also identify points of interest
to revisit and search more deeply once we narrow our topic focus.
