work (Work and Life Balance Survey 2008)
27% of people took sick leave in order to recover from
working long hours
Presenteeism (less productive at work) accounts for
more aggregate productivity loss than absenteeism

9. Motivation of the Project
• Internationally, more and more employers are paying
attention to the psychological well-being of their
employees
Individuals’ psychological capital (just like
economic and human capital) can be
developed
Workers will become more resilient, confident, and
happier
Employers will enjoy higher productivity and morale,
lower turn-over and positive return-on-investment
•
•
•
10. Motivation of the Project
• Compared with U.S. average, a psychologically healthy
workplace has:
Lower employee turnover (11% vs. 36%)
Fewer employees reporting work stress (24% vs.
41%),
Higher employee satisfaction (80% vs. 70%).

same time

• Happy@Work is developed based on the theoretical
framework of positive psychology
Includes skills that help people to set and execute
effective goals, view challenges in optimistic ways,
