PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Institutional University Co-operation (IUC) Program of the Flemish
Interuniversity Council (VLIR) and the Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de
Las Villas, Cuba (UCLV) are inviting researchers on Machine Learning,
Knowledge Discovery and related areas to participate in the workshop "Cuba-
Flanders Workshop on Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovering"
(CFWKD2010). The Workshop is an excellent opportunity for researchers and
graduate students to update themselves as well as to show their projects and
results.
The "Cuba-Flanders Workshop" will take place at Santa Clara, Cuba, hosted by
the Universidad Central de Las Villas. CFWMLKD2010 aims at providing a
forum for exchange about Machine learning and Data Mining techniques and
their applications (in Bioinformatics, Signal and Image processing, Decision
making, etc.). The workshop includes tutorials, invited key lectures and paper
presentations.
The goals of CFWMLKD2010 are to strengthen the relationship among the
researchers, PhD students and MSc students, and to facilitate contact between
them; and to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and discussion on
recent and new trends for research in Machine Learning and knowledge
discovery.
We encourage authors to submit original papers as well as
preliminary and promising PhD research results in the topics of the workshop.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
Submitted papers should follow the Springer paper format. All papers must be
submitted electronically in PDF format.
All accepted papers (with a maximum of 9 pages) will be published in the CD-
ROM proceedings with its corresponding ISBN at the time of workshop.
2. Papers will be reviewed by at least two reviewers from the Program Committee.
Submissions must be identified as either research or application papers and will
be reviewed using appropriate criteria to their category. Review criteria for
research papers will include scientific significance, originality, technical quality ,
and clarity. Review criteria for application papers will include practical or
economic significance, potential for leading to more powerful technology,
technical quality, and clarity.
The workshop’s official language is English.
At least one of the authors should complete the registration by the Registration
deadline; otherwise, the paper will not be included in the proceedings of the
workshop.
IMPORTANT DATES
* Deadline for Papers Submission: December 15, 2009.
* Notification of acceptance: December 30, 2009.
* Deadline for Camera-ready papers: January 15, 2010.
* Deadline for registration: February 2, 2010.

3. About Santa Clara
With a population of over 200 000 people, Santa Clara is located at the Centre
of Cuba, 2 ½ hours away from the capital Havana. The city is famous for being
home to a mausoleum which houses the remains of Che Guevara and sixteen
of his fellow combatants killed in 1967 in Bolivia, as well as other historical
