Romanian Educational System adapting to the coronavirus outbreakCarmen Holotescu
Romania suspended in-person courses in schools and universities from March 11-22 due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Ministry of Education encouraged online learning and provided free access to tools like Google Suite and Microsoft Office. Universities also suspended in-person classes and supported online learning. Romania was prepared with online learning infrastructure and experience from previous open education projects. The Ministry of Education and other organizations provided online textbooks, tele-school programs, customized learning management systems, webinars and open educational resources to support remote learning during this time. Universities like West University of Timisoara began moving classes online on March 11 and provided students with resources through platforms like Moodle, Edmodo and Google Classroom to continue their education remotely.
The document discusses blockchain technology and its potential applications in education. It begins with definitions of blockchain and how the technology enables decentralized and transparent recording of transactions. It then covers how blockchains work and their advantages, such as immutability and disintermediation. The document outlines several blockchain initiatives and applications in education, including providing verifiable credentials and certificates. It argues that more blockchain learning is needed given growing career opportunities in the sector.
This document discusses open education practices at the University "Ioan Slavici" of Timisoara in Romania. It defines open education and describes some key open education practices at the university, including: [1] ongoing innovation of blended courses through the integration of open educational resources (OERs) and massive open online courses (MOOCs); [2] continuing teacher training through participation in MOOCs and communities of practice; and [3] participation in open education initiatives in Romania. The benefits and challenges of integrating MOOCs into blended courses and flipped classrooms are also outlined.
