WHAT YOU’LL FIND
Collections are displayed with a close-up image of each stone—intended to show that particular stone’s
distinct characteristics. It is important to note though, that a single piece of any given stone will not tell
the complete story. Each piece is one of a kind and will display some variation with regard to coloration,
veining and surface texture.

WHAT IS PROGRAMMATIC STONE?
At ANN SACKS, we refer to “programmatic stone” as those stone collections
that encompass a range of formats in order to offer the ultimate in design
flexibility. This range of formats includes:

field tile
Field tile represents the core of any stone collection. Available in sizes
ranging from 2" x 4" to 24" x 24", with many options in between, these
pieces offer the utmost in flexibility and form the backbone of designing
with stone tile.

mosaics
Stone mosaics bring texture and visual interest to stone tile installations.
Sold on netted sheets for ease of installation, mosaics range from simple
1" x 1" grid patterns to more elaborate herringbone and basketweave. See
page 38 for line drawings of available mosaic patterns.

moldings/trim
Just as wood molding and trim plays a key role in completing an interior
space, so too does tile molding and trim when designing with stone.
Refer to page 38 for line drawings of available molding/trim profiles.

slabs
Commonly used for bathroom vanity tops or kitchen counters, stone
slabs also make a strong statement as surfacing for more modern
flooring and wall installations. All ANN SACKS stone slabs are offered
with a finished top surface and straight-cut edges to be fabricated
to your project specifications.

carpet. For heavier cleaning, it is recommended to
use cleaners especially formulated for natural stone.
Cleaners are available for general maintenance as
well as heavy-duty cleaning and stain removal.

antiqued A finish that replicates rusticated or distressed
textures. Produced through mechanical or chemical means to
simulate the naturally occurring effects of the aging process.

brushed A finish in which the surface is brushed to
reveal unique characteristics of the stone. Veins, shells and
denser elements of the stone become relief and the overall
finish takes on a subtle sheen and soft texture.

bush-hammered A textured surface, produced by a
mechanical process, that varies from subtle to rough.

honed A satin-smooth surface finish with little or no gloss,
recommended for commercial floors.

polished A glossy surface finish that brings out the full
color and character of the stone.

sandblasted A matte-textured surface finish with no
gloss, finished by application of a steady flow of sand and
water under pressure.

satin honed A finish between honed and polished
allowing for a smooth surface with a subtle sheen.

split-faced A finish whereby the stone’s face has been
broken on an approximate plane, revealing a dynamic fractured
surface texture.

tumbled A weathered, aging finish created when the
