A Commentary on Judges and Ruth - Coming Soon
order online
By Robert B. Chisholm, Jr.
Our Price
Retail
$29.59 $36.99
This new commentary from DTS Professor, Dr. Robert B. Chisholm, Jr., sheds exegetical and theological light on the
books of Judges and Ruth for contemporary preachers and students of Scripture. Listening closely to the text while
interacting with the best of scholarship, Chisholm shows what the text meant for ancient Israel and what it means for us
today. In addition to its perceptive comments on the biblical text, it examines a host of themes such as covenants and
the sovereignty of God in Judges, and providence, redemption, loving kindness, and Christological typology in Ruth.
Chisholm offers astute guidance to preachers and teachers wanting to do a series on Judges or Ruth by providing
insightful exegetical and theological commentary. He offers homiletical trajectories for each passage to show how
historical narrative can be presented in the pulpit and classroom.

The God who became Human
by Graham A. Cole
Our Price
$17.60
order online
Retail
$22.00
The study of themes plays a major part of biblical theology, and great events and roles that are pivotal in Christology
can be successfully placed in a ‘promise-fullfilment’ framework. However, is incarnation an anomaly? Was incarnation
part of the hope of Israel? Graham Cole’s stimulating study addresses such questions. He begins by exploring the
purpose of creation in terms of God fashioning a palace-temple for dwelling with the creature made in the divine
image, and then follows God’s acts in Israel’s history to redeem a people of his own among whom he can dwell. In
particular, he examines theophanic language: God is presented as a person who speaks, acts and feels as though
embodied. He considers Israel’s messianic hope, and then the testimony of the New Testament: ‘The Word became
flesh and dwelt among us’ (John 1:14), in the person of Jesus Christ. Cole also addresses the question raised by Anselm
- ‘Why did God become man?’ - and finds abundant New Testament answers. He concludes with a consideration of
the theological and existential significance of the incarnation
